EA's Immortals of Aveum first-person magic shooter swaps guns for magic

from Jonathan Harsh
Some of the creators of Dead Space and Call of Duty are working on an interesting project at EA that could bring a breath of fresh air to the first-person shooter genre. In Immortals of Aveum there are no guns but lots of magical abilities.

As part of this year’s Game Awards, a lot of games were shown again. One title that has stood out from the crowd is Immortals of Aveum. In the presented trailer, the avatar enters a huge battlefield with explosions, flying projectiles and lots of carnage from the first person perspective. Only after a few moments of watching does it become clear that these are not ordinary soldiers and firearms, but medieval warriors, magic barriers and attack spells, because Immortals of Aveum is a “first-person magic shooter”. , set in a fantasy universe.

Immortals of Aveum asks: what if CoD, but with magic?

It is no coincidence that the first trailer for Immortals of Aveum, despite the magic and castles, is almost reminiscent of the action in a Call of Duty, because in addition to former Dead Space developers, some ex-CoD people are also working on the title. They have teamed up as Ascendant Studios to set up the single-player spectacle under the aegis of EA. Game director Bret Robbins actually came up with the idea while working on a Call of Duty spin-off. Even then, he thought “it would be cool if a helicopter was a dragon, and if instead of rockets, fireballs blasted the walls” (via polygon).

There is no concrete release date – as of now – but Immortals of Aveum is scheduled for release in 2023 for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
