New MMORPG to be released in 2024 - Looks really good in the first trailer, but has 2 big snags

A brand new MMORPG has been introduced with Kingdom Under Fire: The Rise. It promises action-packed battles in a beautiful game world, and it also has a well-known name. But apart from that, it will probably only inspire a few players.

What is this MMORPG? The new game is based on the world of Kingdom Under Fire, which has mainly produced strategy games since 2001. However, the new title “The Rise” is supposed to be an MMORPG:

  • It takes place in a European medieval world.
  • There are at least three different classes: Spellsword, Berserker and Gunslinger.
  • The classes can be changed at any time by cards.
  • The fights should be action-packed. You have to aim, dodge and block.
  • You can buy your own land and build on it.

However, the focus in the endgame is fully on PvP. According to the announcement, there should be “most rewards” there, but also “penalties”. How exactly the PvP looks like was not explained, but there should be skirmishes between a few players and huge battles for the whole region.

Exactly what PvE content will be is not known at this time.

Is there another catch? The Rise is said to be primarily based on NFTs and blockchain. The developer CRETA was founded in Japan solely to realize a “multiplatform game with Locus Chain”. Everything in the game should be tradable, including class cards.

For which platforms exactly the MMORPG appears, has not yet been revealed.

The Rise should also rely on Seasons. With each season, the progress in the game should be completely reset. Only the acquired NFTs remain.

Kingdom Under Fire flopped as an MMORPG before

How do you know Kingdom Under Fire? In 2019, the game Kingdom Under Fire 2 was released in the West. It was a mix of MMORPG and real-time strategy. It didn’t get much hype when it launched on Steam, but at least it got a lot of positive reviews.

But the large numbers of players remained.

Many fans mainly blamed the publisher Gameforge. They are said to have done too little advertising and published the content too slowly. In addition, the Buy2Play model was seen as too big a hurdle to attract new players to the franchise.

But Gameforge alone cannot be to blame. Because the game also failed in Malaysia, Russia and China. New content was also implemented by the Korean developer, not by Gameforge itself.

The new Kingdom Under Fire: The Rise will probably not be a hit in the West either, thanks to the focus on PvP and NFTs.
