Free at Epic Games: Retro Racer next 24 hour game

from Thilo Bayer
Epic Games has unveiled the second mysterious free game, and fans of classic 90’s arcade racing games should rejoice.

At 5 p.m. sharp, Epic lifted the veil on the second mysterious game. After the acclaimed tower defense game Bloons TD 6, it’s now almost the 1990s.

Second game: Horizon Chase Turbo

The second 24-hour free game is described as an “exciting arcade racing game inspired by the fun-filled classic racing games of the 90’s”. Horizon Chase Turbo was therefore influenced by 80s and 90s games like Out Run, Top Gear (SNES), Rush and others. It is “based on classic gameplay and offers fast-paced fun”. The multiplayer split screen is intended to bring back memories of late nights playing with friends on the couch – or Mario Kart on the switch. It goes on to say that you drive your car through unusual locations and are influenced by weather effects such as sunsets, rain, snow, volcanic ash and even sandstorms. The polygons and the secondary color aesthetic create a “unique atmosphere”. Barry Leitch, the musician responsible for the soundtracks of classic arcade racing games such as Lotus Turbo Challenge, Top Gear (SNES) and Rush, is responsible for the sound.

Horizon Chase Turbo has been available on Steam since 2018 and has an approval rating of a whopping 95 percent from over 3,150 Steam reviews. The Turbo addition is no coincidence, as the original game came out in 2015 and was also highly acclaimed. Among other things, UHD graphics came with the turbo version. In total there are 12 cups, 48 cities, 109 tracks, 31 unlockable cars and 12 upgrades. There is a “ghost mode” online.
