E-car: Vacuum cleaner effect to ensure record acceleration

from Claus Ludewig
The British company McMurtry has announced a hypercar that is supposed to stick to the road with a vacuum cleaner effect. This should enable a record-breaking acceleration to 60 miles per hour in 1.4 seconds.

The Automobili Pininfarina Manufacture has set some world records with the all-electric Hyper GT Battista. The electric car accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 1.86 seconds and to 200 km/h in 4.79 seconds. Now the British company McMurtry is counterattacking. With the Speirling electric car, the sprint to 60 miles per hour (approx. 96.5 km/h) should be possible in 1.4 seconds, and the quarter mile is completed in 7.97 seconds. This is mainly due to the vacuum cleaner effect.

1,000 hp and less than 1,000 kilograms in weight

With a blower, the hypercar should be able to suck itself onto the road to improve traction. According to the manufacturer, the Speirling, which is largely made of carbon, weighs only 980 kilograms and offers an output of 745 kW, the equivalent of almost 1,013 hp. Only a high-voltage battery with 60 kWh is installed as a battery, so that you can be on the road with the Speirling for a maximum of 20 minutes. More battery capacity and thus more range would increase the weight.

The Speirling is still a prototype, but McMurtry would like to develop the electric car to series production while maintaining the performance data and weight. Instead of an exhaust, there is an air outlet that could also be used as a leaf blower, as some testers note. It is unclear when the Batmobile-style car will be on the road and what it will cost. In contrast, competitor Pininfarina has already revealed the price of its Hyper GT Battista electric car. The Hyper GT can be ordered at a unit price of 2.2 million euros plus taxes, with no more than 150 units being manufactured. Books about the legendary design company Pininfarina are cheaper to get.

Collection for the e-car with vacuum cleaner effect:

  • The British company McMurtry has presented the Speirling electric car, which is to be developed to series production.
  • Thanks to a fan, the hypercar should be able to suck itself onto the road and thus accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (corresponds to 96 km/h) in just 1.4 seconds.
  • More than 1,000 hp provide propulsion for the Speirling, although the battery is comparatively small at just 60 kWh. So you can only drive it for a maximum of 20 minutes. In return, the prototype weighs only 945 kilograms.
  • It is still unclear when the electric car with vacuum cleaner effect will come onto the market.
