The best games for virtual fireworks 2022

At the turn of the year there is traditionally a lot of banging, there are cracks and bangs everywhere. It’s always nice to look at, but it’s not free from criticism either. And of course, not everyone – for whatever reason – likes shooting firecrackers into the sky.

You can also do this virtually without having to worry about animals, the environment or your wallet. There are various games that literally set off virtual fireworks. We’ve rounded up a few of the best for you here, in no particular order, as always. If you can think of any alternatives, please feel free to comment. Have fun while reading!

FantaVision (2000 – PlayStation 2, PlayStation 4)

Let’s start with the classic, specifically with a game that already existed on the PS2. But you can still buy it from PlayStation Store and play it on PS4 right now! At first glance, FantaVision sounds like a game about lemonade, but no, it’s actually about fireworks!

Like all the games on this site, it’s all about setting off fireworks. Not just on a whim, there is a system behind it. Your goal is to link three or more firecrackers of the same color and make them explode together. You can also trigger chain reactions or trigger a bonus. In North America and Europe, unlike the Japanese version, there was even a two-player mode.

Boom Boom Rocket (2007 – Xbox 360)

Bizarre Creations is better known for games like Project Gotham Racing, Blur, and Geometry Wars, but they also made a small Xbox Live arcade game called Boom Boom Rocket. The name says it all, as there are lots of fireworks exploding against a city background.

As the firecrackers fly into the sky, you have to hit the right buttons as they line up on the screen. This will collect points and increase your bonus counter if you act precisely. Ultimately, it’s all about pushing your high score to classical music and enjoying the fireworks.

Fireworks to classical music.

Fireworks (2012 – PlayStation Vita)

fire works Here, too, the name is relatively unmistakable and makes it clear what is on offer. If you have the game, you can even use the augmented reality cards that came with your PlayStation Vita. As long as you still have it. Which is probably not self-evident.

Other than that, Fireworks is relatively straightforward. You have to touch the firecrackers at the right time when a special marker appears. The better you are, the more points you collect. There are a total of different game modes, all of which use the AR cards. Which cards you use ultimately determines the difficulty.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 (2008 – Xbox 360)

Technically, you don’t set off fireworks in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2. On the screen, however, it all looks so bright and colorful as if you were doing it! You can overlook the fact that it’s not real fireworks.

Anyway, you have six different game modes, so there’s quite a bit to do in this game, which traces its origins back to Bizarre Creations’ Project Gotham Racing series. Today you can still buy the game on Xbox Live and light up the screen with the in-game explosions.

Technically not fireworks, but looks like it.

Fireworks Mania – An Explosive Simulator (2020 – PC)

Fireworks Mania is an “explosive fireworks simulator where you play around with fireworks”. There is no better way to sum it up. You create whole fireworks shows or just blow things up. The main thing is that it explodes and lights up beautifully!

On the one hand, you can have fast, explosive fun in Fireworks Mania. On the other hand, it’s possible to linger longer just by setting up whole fireworks shows or scouring the area for explosive things.
