Destiny 2: A Reward makes Iron Banner more popular than ever – but it takes 12 hours to get it

There’s a lot going on in Destiny 2’s Iron Banner right now. However, not because of the new Season 19 mode “Fortress”, but rather because of a special reward that almost everyone is after right now. However, you also need a good 12 hours to get them. So we tell you how the grind for the Prestige shader “Iron Countershade” becomes more bearable.

What is the reward? Last week, Destiny 2 launched the new Iron Banner mode, Stronghold. After Rift and Eruption, this is the third new mode to come into play via the PvP event.

However, in addition to the actual activity, Lord Saladin always brings weapons and armor with him, as well as a few cosmetic rewards that can be earned by advancing the reputation ranks.

There, the Guardians quickly spotted the new Iron Banner shader, Iron Countershading, as a particularly worthwhile loot. He gives any armor fabric a cool, rusty chainmail look with moss inlay. But if you want to become a knight in Destiny 2, you have to invest a lot of time.

Krypz shows you in the video how the chains of the shader look on different armor:

This is what the new Iron Countershading shader looks like

How do you get the prestige shader? To unlock the new top shader, Iron Countershade, you have to reset your reputation rank with Lord Saladin not just once, but almost twice. This goes far beyond completing the normal Iron Banner challenges and is really only for ambitious players.

  • For the normal Season 19 Iron Banner Challenges, to get 4x top loot, completing 18 matches with Void or Stasis is enough. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose.
  • You can also get the complete Iron Banner armor from Season 19 quite well if you redeem the Iron Banner engrams you have received up to that point from Master Rahool. Again, usually no 2 resets are necessary.

Where can you see your completed Iron Banner challenges? Unlike before, where Lord Saladin still offered bounties, you can now only view your completed challenges via the map. To do this, select the Crucible via the destinations. If the Iron Banner is active, you will see the Iron Banner emblem there. Hovering over it will show you where you currently stand on the challenges.

However, the shader “Iron Counter Shading” is a so-called “prestige item”. For this you have to reset almost twice and thus have earned over 19,000 reputation rank points in Iron Banner. This is where victories and defeats become more important again.

  • A win in Iron Banner gives you 300 XP
  • If you lose, you get 220 XP

Stronghold mode typically lasts around 10 minutes with matchmaking and approach. So if you have the shader “Iron Counter Shading”, for example, you have won 34 games and lost 40 games and spent about 12 hours in the Iron Banner.

It is therefore not surprising that players eventually recognized and chose the easiest way. Arranging to lose on purpose is only worth 220 XP, but it’s also much faster.

Players are intentionally losing in Destiny 2 PvP right now so they can claim rewards

This way you can get the prestige shader faster

If you want the shader, consider this: It probably won’t be available through other means for a long time. So if you don’t pick it up now via the Iron Banner in Season 19, you will probably only be able to admire it from the guardians who have made the effort.

However, Iron Banner offers a special benefit that other playlists in Destiny 2 don’t have – the Reputation Rank Multiplier. If you use all the boost modifiers there, you can at least rank up in reputation with Lord Saladin 640% faster. And that makes the arduous way to the shader easier for you.

Here’s how to get the most boost to your reputation rank:

  • Complete the daily challenges at Lord Saladin. Not only do they grant you Iron Banner gear, but they also give +100% Reputation per challenge. With 4 challenges, that’s 400%.
  • Equip Iron Banner armor. Each piece of Iron Banner armor worn gives you a 40% boost to reputation rank. So if you wear 5 pieces of armor, that’s a plus of 200%. If you don’t have Iron Banner armor, it’s worth checking out the collection. There, the “Iron Tribute” armor is mostly recoverable, so you can use it.
  • Choose an Iron Banner Badge. In addition to armor, you should also equip an Iron Banner Badge. It also grants you a 40% boost to reputation rank.

You can also bet on victories. In the PvP mode “Fortress”, however, this can almost only be influenced with a well-coordinated team. With consultation and some tactics, you can usually hold the preferred zone better, which almost always brings a secure profit.

Is the grind worth it? Absolutely. The Iron Counter Shader is indeed special and deserves Prestige status. His chain mail look makes every character a fearless knight. And because it has this special effect, armor that was otherwise rather boring also looks good. Such as the Warlock Exotic Starfire Protocol.

What do you say about the shader? Is a cosmetic also worth a 12-hour grind to you, or do you save yourself the effort because it’s not a desirable loot for you. Please leave us a comment.
