Dead Space: Movie is coming, but with a new director

A sci-fi zombie moves towards the player.

While many fans are currently focusing on the forthcoming release of the Dead Space remake, one of the most well-known horror film directors has again indicated that he is working on a film adaptation of the survival horror title from EA. In an interview with Variety, the cult director John Carpenter, who is known for classics like “Halloween”, “The Thing From Another World” or “The Rattlesnake”, now apparently confirms that he is working on such a project.

“I love Dead Space but wouldn’t make a movie about it”

In a newly published interview with Variety, John Carpenter has now confirmed that a film adaptation of the horror game Dead Space is in the works. Although many fans would probably want him to executive produce or direct, Carpenter has now revealed that he is not involved in a Dead Space film.

As we reported in the fall, another interview with the cult director gave fans hope that he could be involved in the “Dead Space” film. In a recent interview with Variety, he has now refuted these rumors: “No, no, no, I can’t believe these rumors even existed”.

In the conversation he goes into more detail about his love for video games and the film adaptation of “Dead Space”: “I’m a huge video game fan. So I’ve got them all [Dead Space-] games played. I was looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and I happened to mention that I’d like to do a ‘Dead Space’ film. It kind of spread and suddenly everyone was asking when I was going to do the film. I won’t do it”.

Then he added: “I think they’ve already found another director who’s working on it. And they didn’t even ask me. So until someone asks me about it, I won’t do a film like that. But there’s a new one coming out in January.” Dead Space’ video game and I’m totally into it”.

Carpenter is a big video game fan

In the interview from the fall, it also turned out that John Carpenter is a big video game fan. Accordingly, his favorites include “Borderlands”, “Horizon Zero Dawn” or “Fallout 76”. He has now reaffirmed his love for games in the current interview.
