4A Games: Ukraine war affects story of next Metro offshoot

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Rumor: Customizable Kill Cams Coming Soon

Developer 4A Games has announced that the story of the next Metro offshoot will be influenced by the war currently raging in Ukraine.

The majority of the employees of the Ukrainian developer studio 4A Games are affected by the war that has been raging in Ukraine for eleven months. In a newly published updates the studio now announces that it will continue to work on its various projects against all odds and that it intends to meet the aforementioned goals.

But not only the working conditions of the studio have changed as a result of the war, which was experienced first-hand. The approach to the next installment in the Metro series was also influenced, as 4A Games explains:

“We have never hidden the fact that the Metro series has always had a strong political and anti-war message. Yes, we always wanted to entertain and delve into our post-apocalyptic world, but there was also a bigger story to tell. And the war in Ukraine made us rethink what kind of story the next Metro should be about.”

“All of Metro’s themes — conflict, power, politics, tyranny, oppression — are now part of our daily life experience. So we take them and weave them into the game with a new purpose.”

The next Metro game, which will be a story-driven single player experience like previous titles, is currently in development for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. A separate development team was also working on a multiplayer game set in the Metro universe.
