Dead Space Remake: Too scary to play with headphones?

from Rhonda Bachman
On January 27th the remake of the 2008 released Dead Space will be released. The remake seems to send shivers down the spines even of the developers. As one of the devs now explained, he cannot play the horror game with headphones at night.

The Dead Space remake is about to be released. As early as January 27, 2023, players can once again slip through the spooky corridors of the stranded mining spaceship USG Ishimura in the skin of Isaac Clarke. The players should experience the same horror as the original from 2008. As the technical director of the Dead Space remake has now revealed, he cannot play the title with headphones at night. He’s just too creepy for that.

Remake tries to scare players like in the original

The developers at Motive Studios, who are responsible for the remake of Dead Space, have previously said that players should never feel safe in the remake of the horror classic. Of course, the remake will be very similar to the 2008 original. However, some areas that weren’t as popular in the original Dead Space are said to have been adjusted in the upcoming game.

In addition, Dead Space should be able to come up with a dense atmosphere. This is supposed to make the new remake so scary that even the developers get scared. “If I play it at night, I can’t play it with headphones,” said Dead Space Remake technical director David Robillard. “It’s just too scary. Just the level of realism and atmosphere. Not just visual. It’s also about the way we approach sound, atmosphere and effects, with systems that try to scare you.”

Recently it was announced that the remake of Dead Space will probably have an alternative ending. This is indicated by the successes of the game. The “Reunion” achievement can be found in the game’s leaked trophy list. This should be unlocked when players see “the alternative ending in any difficulty mode”.
