Uncharted 5 hinted at? Sony’s new PS5 commercial could provide clues

Uncharted 5 hinted at? Sony's new PS5 commercial could provide clues.

Sony may have hinted at an Uncharted 5 in a new PlayStation 5 commercial.

The new trailer, titled Live from PS5, was released today. At the same time, Sony had announced that it would be easier to buy a PS5 this year.

What does the video show?

The video is newscast-style and features various live-action reports alluding to PlayStation games such as Horizon, God of War and Gran Turismo.

In between there is also a short sequence that does not match any currently known PS5 game.

You can see a young woman with a torch in a cave. In another shot, we see her blowing dust off what appears to be an ancient artifact.

As I said: This does not match any currently known game and could be a possible indication of an Uncharted sequel.

A possible hint of Uncharted 5.

Is Sony hinting at Uncharted 5 here?

Why Uncharted?

Why Uncharted? Warning, spoilers! Uncharted 4 ends with us seeing Cassie, the teenage daughter of Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher.

She discovers some relics from their past together, and Nathan decides to tell her about it.

So could Cassie replace Nathan as the main character in future Uncharted games? Not unlikely.

However, it is less likely that future Uncharted games will be developed by Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann said last week that the studio had “moved on” with regard to Uncharted. Of course, that doesn’t preclude another team from considering the continuation.

There have already been hints of an Uncharted sequel. For example, when Christina-Marie Drake McBrearty joined Naughty Dog as a recruiter last year, she wrote that she was “excited to build future teams not just for new titles, but for Uncharted’s legacy.”

A job offer last year also stated that Sony was building a new internal development team to work with Naughty Dog on a game based on a “popular franchise.”
