Even Civilization is impressed: Player wins without founding cities – “The madman did it”
A YouTuber has mastered an insane challenge: He won a match in the strategy game Civilizations 6 without founding a single city. Even Civilization’s YouTube account is very impressed. We show you the video and how he did it on MeinMMO.
Civilization 6 is all about staying one step ahead of your opponents: technology, army, culture – you have to find your niche and consistently pressurize opponents.
But what happens if you are not allowed to found cities yourself? And in addition it is not allowed to build your own military units?
The YouTuber “boesthius” has now shown that such a tactic is quite possible. In an entertaining video, he wins a round with his own rules and covers the map with chaos and doom. That even got the Civilizations account on the scene – they are very impressed.

No Cities in Civilizations 6 – “We Love to See You Suffer”
What was that challenge? It was basically a “No City Challenge”. Boesthius was therefore not allowed to build any cities. Not even the first settler is allowed to provide a shelter. But the YouTuber set even more rules:
- Don’t found cities
- Keep a maximum of 3 cities from opponents
- Only civilians and melee siege may be trained
- Pangea Map / Small / Marathon Speed
- Zombie mode activated
- “God” difficulty
A regular round of Civ 6 on Deity is enough to give some fans of the series nightmares – myself included. But without cities? No units? The comments below the video often mention “torture”.

How did he do it? Good idea, good planning and a lot of luck. boesthius played the Chinese leader Qin Shi Huang (Unifier). This allowed him to take over enemy barbarians with melee units.
In the first moments of the video, the YouTuber gives a little insight into his previous attempts – many ended quickly.

In the winning match, it took almost the first 100 rounds before he finally found a suitable barbarian camp to cannibalize. It quickly turned out that the zombies are also an excellent tool.
Due to the complete lack of infrastructure and the low expansion of the cities, things then became quite tight – boesthius lost almost all of his cities due to a lack of loyalty.
But at a certain point he was able to overrun his enemies and bag the win in lap 278.
