A620 motherboards: New AMD chipset without PCIe 5 support but with RAM overclocking

from Yusuf Hatic
The first leaks are circulating for the upcoming entry-level mainboards with A620 I/O hub: The chipset is said to do without PCI Express Gen5 and the option of CPU overclocking, but instead allow overclocking of the main memory.

After the first AM5 mainboards with the I/O hub A620 from Asus and Gigabyte were sighted, which should ensure a cheap entry into the world of Zen 4 processors, the first specifications are making the rounds. As the leaker chi11eddog, who has already been able to draw attention to himself as a reliable source several times with correct advance information, reports on Twitter, he has concrete information about the upcoming A620 mainboards.

As a result, the new AMD mainboards with the A620 I/O hub, like the B650 models, should rely on 28 CPU PCIe lanes, but only support PCI Express Gen 4 – the mainboards with the B650 chipset can be used in their extreme variant at least rely on the more current PCIe 5 standard. The compatibility of the chipset PCIe lanes, which can only have Gen3 support in the A620 mainboards, is also graded.

As usual for entry-level mainboards, the upcoming A620 models will not allow overclocking of the respective processor. After all, it is possible to overclock the main memory. It is not clear from the leak whether this is AMD’s EXPO profile or whether manual RAM overclocking is meant, especially since overclocking the main memory via BLCK adjustment is still possible with the previous generation around the A520 mainboards, despite different plans was.

Official confirmations from AMD are still pending, but given the increasingly frequent leaks and rumors, it shouldn’t be long before the A620 mainboards are released – possibly at the relatively low price of 125 US dollars, which AMD offered in the course of the AM5 -Introduced as a starting price for its boards.
