James Gunn Introduces the Future of the DC Universe (10 New Movies/Series)
James Gunn spent several minutes commenting on the future of the DC Universe via Twitter and made various exciting announcements. A total of ten new films and series are currently planned. The Batman Part II will run outside of the new DCU.
James Gunn is not only a screenwriter, director and producer (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad), but also co-CEO of DC Studios since October 2022, together with Peter Safran. Their mission: to bring the DC Universe on a successful path on the big screen and in series format that can at least compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The future of the DC Universe
A few days ago, James Gunn took the time to tweet for several minutes about the plans for the DC Universe.
The key takeaways from the tweet read as follows:
- James Gunn describes once again what the two CEOs want to achieve: In the future, the films, series, games and animated works within the DC Universe should be connected. The same, framing storyline should be told across media and pushed further and further. The characters within the story should be consistent even when they appear in multiple works, and then they should be played by the same actors.
- All works running outside of this DC Universe should be appropriately identified.
- The Flash is set to reboot the DC Universe on June 15, 2023.
- Aquaman 2: The Lost Kingdom will then be based on The Flash from December 21, 2023. Both films then lead to the first new projects that James Gunn presents below – overall, the concept of the new authors includes a project plan for the next eight to ten years.
- The first chapter is called “Gods and Monsters” and consists of several projects. Are planned:
- the animated series Creature Commandos (with live-action sequences)
- the live-action series Waller
- the feature film Superman: Legacy (this is where the new DCU really gets going, to be released in July 2025)
- the live-action HBO series Lanterns (True Detective with extraterrestrials)
- the motion picture The Authority (brings WildStorm characters into the DCU)
- the live-action series Paradise Lost
- the feature film The Brave and the Bolt, which introduces the Batman version of the new DCU
- the live-action series Booster Gold
- the movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
- the feature film Swamp Thing
Outside of the new DC Universe will be the sequel to Matt Reeves The Batman (buy now €12.99 ) run with Robert Pattinson. The second part is titled The Batman Part II and is scheduled to hit theaters on October 3, 2025. Before that, a spinoff about the penguin (played by Colin Farrell) should also appear ( via games radar ).
