Next week on Steam: Nobody is going against Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy: Launch trailer makes fans' hearts beat faster

from Thilo Bayer
Normally 100 or 200 games appear on Steam each week, but next week Hogwarts Legacy will have the stage almost to itself.

Next week, Hogwarts Legacy, one of the heavyweights of the first half of the year and probably the whole year, will be released. All signs point to huge interest, which obviously puts off other game developers and publishers.

Hogwarts Legacy as a competitor fright

If you look at the release plan on Steam for the coming week, there is a yawning void. Just 18 games can be seen in the otherwise reliable Steam DB database. Unless this is a bug, other developers avoid Hogwarts Legacy release week

To put the 18 games in context: Normally 100 or more games appear on Steam per week, sometimes 200. Among them are many games that hardly anyone gets to see or actually play – especially in the NSFW area. But only 18 games in a Steam week is absolutely unusual, even in the first week of January when it wasn’t busy, there were multiple games. In 2022 there were almost 13,000 game releases on Steam, that’s more than 1,000 new games per month. And in the coming week, next to Hogwarts Legacy, there really won’t be a single well-known game. Only in the following week, which is currently comparatively sparsely staffed with almost 60 releases, with Returnal, Pharaoh: A New Era and Wild Hearts, a few well-known games dare to come out from under cover.

Hogwarts Legacy is not only the current top seller on Steam, but also Number 1 in the wish list charts. A short time ago, the surprise bag game The Day Before was number 2 and would have moved up to number 1 next week – but that’s another story. So Sons of the Forest will probably move up, which was already on 23.2. pending.
