Not a real open world: Marvel’s Wolverine is probably based on God of War Ragnarök

While Spider-Man got an open world, Wolverine should be much more linear.

Apart from a small teaser trailer, we haven’t been able to see much about Marvel’s Wolverine so far. Unfortunately, no release date was mentioned in the trailer, which is why we have to assume that the title is still a long way off.

But industry insiders Jeff Grubb can now specify the period. In a new episode of Game Mess Mornings, he now chats up some details about the action title and reveals why there are parallels to God of War Ragnarök.

PS5 Exclusive Marvel’s Wolverine doesn’t have a true open world

What awaits us? Unlike Marvel’s Spider-Man, where we could freely swing between urban canyons, Marvel’s Wolverine will not have an open world:

Rather, there should be a semi-open world that has a linear design. We already know the larger, more open areas on God of War Ragnarök. There are individual worlds between which we can only switch after a certain loading time. But within the world, the area is largely open.

The title is also set to take place before the time Wolverine joined the X-Men. Grubb also confirms what a developer from Insomniac Games has already revealed: Marvel’s Wolverine will probably be released for ages 18 and over, which leaves plenty of room for violence and more adult themes.

When is Marvel’s Wolverine coming out? Grubb revealed that Insomniac Games is planning a fall 2024 release. But he wouldn’t be surprised if the launch is postponed to 2025, because this period is also an option for the development team.

The teaser trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine reveals how dark the action game could be:

Insomniac Games is working on another Marvel title

In addition to Marvel’s Wolverine, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently in development at Insomniac Games. The action-adventure should appear at the end of 2023, possibly a year before Marvel’s Wolverine.

For the first time we can experience Peter Parker and Miles Morales in one game. The two face off against villains Venom and Kraven the Hunter and must team up to take them down.

What kind of world would you have liked for Marvel’s Wolverine? Semi-open, open or something completely different?
