Resident Evil 4 Remake: I’m already afraid of this new opponent with a cow’s head mask and a hammer

It’s not as if Resident Evil 4 didn’t have enough grisly enemies already. Developer studio Capcom apparently sees it differently and packs a few new, terrifying nightmare opponents into the Resident Evil 4 remake. Like this bundle of joy, for example, who wears the head of a dead cow as a mask and also wields a huge hammer.

Resident Evil 4 gets all new super scary enemies

That’s what it’s about: The remake of Resident Evil 4 largely sticks to the original. But it also makes exceptions and, for example, introduces completely new enemy types that did not exist in the original.

Like this really, really scary guy. Apparently he somehow thinks it’s cool and chic to simply put on the severed head of a dead cow and wear the thing as a mixture of helmet and mask. A giant hammer completes the daring look.

That’s what it looks like – and thanks, but no thanks:

The guy with the giant hammer and the cow’s head is in the same vein (got it?) as the bully with the chainsaw. So we are dealing with an actually human opponent who stands out with his weapon and headgear.

No Minotaur: Art director Hirofumi Nakaoka explains that we are not dealing with a minotaur or similar mythical creatures. No, no, this mini-boss opponent just wore a cow’s head for headgear, and yes, that makes it a whole lot scarier (via: Game Informer).

Accordingly, this more or less chic hat wobbles back and forth uncomfortably in the fight. The cow’s eyes never look at us and that gives the whole thing an even more unpleasant vibe than the character already exudes. In any case, I can gratefully forgo an encounter of this kind.

The idea behind it: Impaled cow or deer heads have already been used as decorative elements in Resident Evil, so why not take it a step further? It’s no coincidence that the whole thing is reminiscent of religious fanatics like Los Illuminados and is primarily used to change the gameplay.

When is Resident Evil 4 Remake coming? You’ll soon see for yourself how awfully awkward the guy in the cow head mask looks. Resident Evil 4 Remake is scheduled for release on March 24th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC.

How do you like this new opponent? How do you feel about such innovations in remakes in general?
