They use QR codes in parking meters to steal payment data

Now scammers are sticking QR codes on parking meters to scam thousands of users.

Cybercriminals are always looking for new methods to scam people and not only keep their personal data for phishing, but also steal their credit card details, and now they are using the parking meters to fool a lot of people.

And it is that recently it has been discovered in several cities of the United States QR code stickers in parking meters that redirect to fraudulent sites for the user to enter their bank details.

So law enforcement in Austin and San Antonio have issued different warnings to the population after discovering a series of stickers with QR codes that have appeared in certain parking meters, they report from Click2houston, where they have published different screenshots of the fraudulent site and also how these stickers look on parking meters.

If the user arrives at one of these parking meters and wants to pay, they have different options but never the QR code that has been pasted directly by the cybercriminal to redirect the user or a fraudulent web page and keep their bank card data.

The authorities clarify that the city of Houston do not bet on QR codes to pay at parking meters So you should be aware of these types of scams. In addition, in these parking lots you can only pay with coins, bills, traditional credit cards or through the official application.

The authorities warn that if the user has ended up entering their bank details through these QR codes, they should immediately go to their bank to reverse any unauthorized transaction on their card.
