Gigabyte presents a 55-inch gaming monitor. The S55U offers 4K and 120 Hertz. But is it still a monitor or already a TV?
News
Gigabyte is expanding its gaming monitor lineup. With the S55U, the manufacturer has a screen with a 54.6-inch screen diagonal presented. In addition to classic monitor functions, the screen also offers built-in apps such as YouTube and Netflix, as well as support for Android TV.
The display uses UHD resolution and quantum dots. In addition, up to 120 Hz refresh rate and 2 ms response time predestine the S55U for gaming use. This is joined by HDMI 2.1 to display content in 4K without any problems.
The total connectivity bandwidth consists of 2x HDMI 2.1 with eARC, 2x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3m2 Gen 1, 1x USB 2.0, Ethernet, Wifi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth. Two 10 W speakers with support for Dolby Atmos / DTS HD provide the sound. The maximum brightness is given as 1500 cd/m², the consumption with up to 83 W.
Overall, the Gigabyte S55U looks more like a smart TV with a gaming focus on paper than a monitor for the desk. Practice will have to show whether the giant looks out of place in the gaming room or whether it offers the best of both worlds and thus combines a TV and monitor.
When the Gigabyte S55U will be released is not known at this point in time. Gigabyte does not currently provide any information about the recommended price either.
