A new game in the Witcher universe will be released tomorrow
Originally known as Project Golden Nekker, the new single player spin-off of The Witcher 3’s quite popular card game, Gwent, will be available tomorrow, July 7th, 2022 for PC, iOS, and Android. Now called Gwent: Rogue Mage is a deckbuilding roguelike entirely focused on singleplayer. The standard edition costs 10 euros, a deluxe edition is available for 20 euros. The latter includes a few skins, maps, and other cosmetic items for the multiplayer version of Gwent.
Gwent: Rogue Mage brings single player to the card game
was announced the whole of IGN, who also spoke to Director Vladimir Tortsov. According to the director, Gwent: Rogue Mage was created because years after the release of The Witcher 3, some players wanted a PvE campaign for Gwent.
“While Multiplayer Gwent is a fantastic game for those looking for a great PvP multiplayer experience, we fully understand that many Witcher players loved Gwent’s original mini-game for very different reasons. With Rogue Mage, we want that audience give a reason to play modern Gwent in whatever format they prefer.”
Games like this are no longer uncommon. For example, Slay the Spire and Monster Train have had some success and are viewed fairly positively by players overall. So it’s not a big surprise that CD Projekt Red wants to enter this market with their own card game.
According to Tortsov, it will take around 30 hours to experience everything the title has to offer. The game’s plot is said to be set several hundred years before Geralt’s adventures, but the focus of the new game is definitely on the gameplay and not the story. Gwent: Rogue Mage is not meant to be an official addition to the Witcher lore. How good CDPR’s new title is, and whether the plot might still be interesting for all Witcher fans, we’ll find out in a few hours when Gwent: Rogue Mage is released tomorrow.
