€2.39 indie game about vampires, looting and leveling conquers Steam – 99% positive reviews

The indie game Vampire Survivors has been on Steam for about a month. The game is described as a “gothic horror casual game” and costs just 2.39% – reviews rave about the unusual title where all you really have to do is move, “loot and level”.

How did the game become successful?

  • “Vampire Survivors” is an indie game from developer “poncle”, who also publishes the game themselves. It’s been on Steam since December 17th and is still in an Early Access state at the moment.
  • In the first few days after the release, practically nobody was interested in the game, but since January 7, more and more players have been discovering the shooter. The number of players has been increasing steadily for days. At the beginning of the small wave of hype, 1000 players were playing at the same time, in the last few days the number of players has risen to almost 8000 simultaneous players.
  • The hype started with a YouTube video from the SplatterCatGaming channel that appeared on January 6th. In the video, the YouTuber introduces the game. He says he loves the game, it reminds him of his childhood. Had the game come out on Super Nintendo, he would have put hundreds of hours into it.

You create the hail of bullets that kill the monsters

What kind of game is this? It’s a rogue-like survival game: the player takes on one of 3 characters. The game is described as “Reverse Bullet Hell”: the character is in an open space, various monsters are approaching from everywhere, and you now have to create a “hail of bullets” to knock down the monsters.

A game usually lasts only a few minutes, during which time you collect experience points that you loot in the form of crystals and level up.

You move the character with WASD, the attacks happen independently. If you collect experience points, you level up and can further develop your character.

As a gimmick you get gold, which remains after the end of the run and is used to further develop the “account”: This is the loot in the game, so to speak.
