New Fighting Game On Steam Lets Tom And Jerry Fight Batman - Gets 93% Positive Reviews

On July 19th, the game MultiVersus entered open beta on Steam. In this game, all sorts of people and creatures, owned by Warner Bros., fight each other. Over 60,000 players were already online at the same time at Peak and the first reviews are also very positive.

What kind of game is this? MultiVersus is a platform fighting game and is roughly reminiscent of successful titles like Super Smash Bros. or Tekken. The curious thing: You play against each other with the craziest characters. The choices include:

  • bugs bunny
  • Shaggy from Scooby Doo
  • Batman
  • Harley Quinn
  • Tom and Jerry as a duo
  • LeBron James, the basketball player
  • Arya Stark

Each of these characters has unique abilities that can also be combined with other characters. There are also three perks that can be adjusted before the fight and provide more tactics.

The game is played either in co-op, 2v2 or directly in a 1v1. There is also a free-for-all mode that accommodates 4 players. In addition to online multiplayer, there is also a single player mode.

When is the game out? The game is currently in Open Beta Early Access. The real open beta is scheduled to take place on July 26th. You just have to pay 40 euros for early access. However, the final game is set to be Free2Play.

In addition to Steam, MultiVersus will also be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. This trailer gives you an insight into the gameplay:

MultiVersus has more players than the top 10 fighting games on Steam combined

How is MultiVersus received? Very good. In the last 24 hours, more than 49,000 players were online at the peak at the same time, at the all-time high on July 21, as many as 61,964 (via Steam Charts). The game had more peak players in the last 24 hours than the 10 biggest fighting games on Steam combined:

  • Brawhalla had 17,298 players
  • Tekken 7 had 6,428 players
  • DNF Duel to 2,766 players
  • Street Fighter 5 to 3,108 players
  • Mortal Kombat 11 to 2,582 players
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ to 1,930 players
  • Guilty Gear Strive to 1,921 players
  • King of Fighters 15 to 813 players
  • Rivals of Aether to 618 players
  • Granblue fantasy: Versus had 180 players

What do the reviews say? The game is also praised in the reviews. At least 93% of the 1,001 reviews are positive. Above all, they praise:

  • The generally good gameplay.
  • The crazy characters, which you can also test in advance in a mode.
  • The many new characters that have already been implemented.
  • The fact that it should be completely Free2Play in the future.

This makes MultiVersus a serious competitor to Smash Bros., which costs money and can only be played on Nintendo consoles.

There are still some doubts about the shop and the balance. The shop is not yet implemented in the beta. According to some users, there should also be characters that are far too strong and still need to be adjusted.

Have you already checked out MutilVersus? What do you think of the game and the characters? Will you try it in the future when it’s Free2Play? Feel free to write it in the comments.
