Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: The Remake is in trouble

There seem to be some serious difficulties in the development of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake.

As Bloomberg development has been paused while Aspyr Media fired the project’s design director (Brad Prince) and art director (Jason Minor) this month.

What’s going on there?

Both are said to have been fired shortly after the studio completed a demo to show to production partners Lucasfilm and Sony.

Studio heads informed the team earlier this month that the demo had not met internal expectations and that development was being paused while Aspyr looked at new development opportunities.

The remake was announced in September 2021 and had been in the works at Aspyr for three years. The original plan was for the game to be released in late 2022.

A Bloomberg source suggests that too much time and money has been put into the demo, and a realistic release timeframe is now 2025.

Aspyr is a subsidiary of Saber Interactive. The studio previously supported the development of the Knights of the Old Republic remake. According to Bloomberg, some at Aspyr believe Saber could now take over development entirely.
