Mario Kart Tour: Removes annoying gacha mechanics, adds battle mode

In the future, Mario Kart Tour will do without its gacha mechanics and add a battle mode on top of that.

The conversion and the addition of the battle mode will take place as part of an update that will be released on October 5th.

What does this change?

Removing the gacha mechanic addresses one of the biggest criticisms of the game since its release three years ago.

Previously, new drivers could only be obtained through tubes, a kind of loot box. There was a total of 100 drivers, karts and gliders to choose from in the tubes, with limited characters making up just a fraction of that.

Duplicates were excluded, but to be guaranteed to get everything, you had to use a tube 100 times. And if an item you want arrives late, you spend even more. With 100 attempts, that would be the equivalent of around 236 euros that you would have to invest.

The tubes are now replaced by a shop where you can buy the items offered directly. Previous items should also return. It is not yet clear what the prices will be like here.

The upcoming battle mode, meanwhile, will be available in both single and multiplayer modes. As you know it from other Mario Kart games, you have to burst the balloons of other players.

Mario Kart Tour was released in September 2019. So far there have been 193 playable characters, 246 karts and 172 gliders.
