The Sims 5: EA shows Project Rene

from Andrew Link
The next generation of The Sims is in development under the project name Rene. EA confirmed this during a live stream celebrating the series’ 22nd anniversary.

Maxis has given fans a first look at a very early stage of The Sims’ next generation and creative platform, known by the working title Project Rene. The title “Project Rene” was chosen to evoke words like “renewal, renaissance, and rebirth” and to represent the development team’s “renewed commitment to the future of The Sims,” according to EA.

The game title will stay true to what The Sims has always been about, while evolving the way Sims think and behave, according to EA. This reinterpretation of The Sims aims to offer even more ways to play, tools to encourage creativity and opportunities to tell meaningful stories. Project Rene allows you to play solo or collaborate with others, as well as play the game across multiple supported devices.

“The Sims has set the standard for life simulation from its inception and has grown into an incredible platform for creativity and self-expression,” said Lyndsay Pearson,

Vice President of Franchise Creative for The Sims. “Today marks the beginning of our multi-year journey as we work on the next game and creative platform, currently called Project Rene. We are building on the same foundation that has brought The Sims to gamers for generations exciting, and pushing boundaries to create new experiences. We’ll have much more to announce as we advance the game’s development and hit milestones.”

It should be some time before the release, which fans of the series can fill with the now free base game of The Sims 4, among other things. The basic version of the game, which is eight years old, will be available for free download from Electronic Arts on PC (via Origin and Steam), Playstation 4/5 and Xbox One/Series X/S effective October 18th.
