The FIFA series still has no crossplay in 2022 – but now there are first tests
It’s actually amazing that FIFA, the world’s biggest sports game, still doesn’t support crossplay to this day. But that finally seems to be over. EA has launched a test that will allow us to play FIFA 22 cross-platform together on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Google Stadia. It’s not yet clear if the feature will be removed after the test run, and crossplay is only available in a few modes, but the promotion is an important sign for the future of the series.
This is how you use cross-play in FIFA 22
The current ‘Pitch Notes‘ from EA tells us the details of the crossplay test. At the start, the function is limited to a few game variants in order to contain possible sources of error. Only when everything goes smoothly could the feature be extended to other modes. Crossplay is currently available for:
- Online Seasons
- Online friendlies
You can currently get FIFA 22 ‘free’ with PS Plus, and there’s some bonus content on top of it:

How to enable crossplay: In the main menu of FIFA 22 you will now find a crossplay indicator in the lower right corner. With a button press on R2/RT you can open a menu and toggle the function on and off.
If you want to gamble with a user from your friends list, you can also select them in the new menu and invite them to a game. Alternatively, you can go directly to an online friendly match and select a gamertag from the list presented here before kick-off. In Online Seasons mode, crossplay works automatically as long as you have the option enabled.

More news about FIFA:
Crossplay coming to FIFA 23? That’s what it looks like at the moment – at least if everything goes well in the test. This means that we will probably not only get the feature for the launch of the next offshoot, but also for all online modes.
Anyway, FIFA 23 could be something like a small restart for the series. On the one hand, the next-gen functions presented in FIFA 22 are to be further expanded, and on the other hand, the coming part could not be called FIFA 23 at all. After the faltering contract negotiations with FIFA, the name EA Sports FC is currently haunting the net as a possible new title.
