The upcoming feature update 22H2 for Windows 11 was accidentally delivered yesterday to devices with Windows 10 that are not supported by the new operating system. The bug is now being investigated.
News
With build number 22621, Microsoft yesterday released a new version of Windows 11 to beta testers in the Release Preview Channel. This should give them access to the upcoming 22H2 function update for test purposes. However, something seems to have gone wrong.
Because like users on Reddit report, the update was also shipped to Release Preview Channel members running Windows 10. It didn’t matter whether the system supported an upgrade to Windows 11. Whether the nurses received the information for the update seemed to depend less on the hardware and more on Microsoft’s distributed rollout mechanism.
Microsoft has meanwhile commented on the problem via Twitter and refers to a bug that we now want to investigate. Users who have switched to Windows 11 with an unsupported system may not receive any security updates in the future. For step-by-step instructions on how to switch back to Windows 10, see our guide “Windows 11 back to Windows 10: How to restore the previous version”.
It’s a bug and the right team is investigating it. Thanks for notifying.
