The Last of Us: Graphic comparison between Remake and Remaster (2)

Hardly is the remake of the first The Last of Us Officially, there are already the first graphic comparisons between the newly announced remake and the remaster for the PS4. Of course, such comparisons should be treated with caution, after all, the remake of The Last of Us: Part 1 will be released on September 2, 2022 for the PlayStation 5. Nonetheless, it is interesting to take a closer look at key scenes right now.

Lighting of the next gen

A prominent example, which remake trailer used is the kissing scene between Ellie and Riley. What is striking here is a slightly different camera setting and a slightly different exposure. The technical progress, which between PS4 and PS5 what happened becomes quite clear. The car scene, which was prominently positioned in the remastered trailer, also shows much more lively lighting. Ellie’s model also looks a bit more realistic in the remake, at least from what we can tell from the trailers. At the same time, the remaster doesn’t look bad at all in this comparison. Another scene that appears in both trailers is an ailing Joel that Ellie worries about. Again, the significantly better lighting catches the eye.

(Not) a necessary remake?

There are now numerous other comparisons of various scenes on YouTube. All in all, the remake looks a step better at the moment, but it’s not nearly as gigantic as in the case of Resident Evil 4. Accordingly, one can at least discuss whether a remake after a console generation is really necessary.

The advantage for customers of the remake is that The Last of Us will also be available for the PC for the first time. This information leaked out as part of a leak that went viral just before the Summer Game Fest and was confirmed by Sony at the same event. Numerous other interesting announcements were made at this very same event, which we of course reported on.
