Ex-The Last of Us and Days Gone devs are now making an RPG with disappointing spin
Looks at first glance Ashfall like a hit guarantee. The project has now been announced by former Sony employees and takes us into a post-apocalyptic world that takes the consequences of the climate crisis to the extreme. But even if this premise sounds exciting at first, the announcement of the new title has a bitter aftertaste.
Ashfall becomes first Web 3.0 NFT title
What is Ashfall about? The game takes us many centuries into the future, where the world is ravaged by massive fires and floods caused by global warming. The world suddenly has something called Trace, a form of dark energy that is turning the weather and people’s lives upside down.
Only a few groups are left of humanity, fighting for survival. The title should contain both PvP and PvE elements. Unfortunately, there’s not much of them in the first teaser trailer, but it already shows what a broken world we can expect:

What’s the catch? Ashfall will leverage the Hedera blockchain network’s HBAR tokens, which will power various in-game activities. Mumbauer and Garvin announced that they wanted to combine mainstream gaming with player participation in the growing crypto market.
A survey of developer studios has already shown that most companies are critical of NFT technology. The majority thinks that the demand is not high enough and cryptocurrencies will not catch on. It is all the more astonishing that Liithos ventures into NFT technology with Ashfall.
You can find out which other companies are using NFT technology in the following articles:
Sony veterans found their own studio
Who is working on the game? Former Sony employees John Garvin and Michael Mumbauer founded the responsible Liithos Studio. They have been involved in the development of titles such as Days Gone, Uncharted and The Last of Us in the past and have 25 and 13 years at Sony respectively.
Unfortunately, not many more details are known at this time. So we don’t know yet when the title will be released and on which platforms we can expect the title. It remains to be seen how the game will resonate with the player community thanks to NFT technology.
What do you think of Ashfall? Will you give the game a chance?
