Blizzard is now selling characters with a maximum level for € 60 in WoW

There is a new level boost in World of Warcraft. For 60 euros you can skip leveling completely and jump to level 60, behind which there is an extended level boost. Activision Blizzard has made a lot of money with cash shops in the past.

Quasi “by the way”, while World of Warcraft presented the contents of the upcoming patch 9.2, a new offer was also published in the game’s shop. The “level boost” has been brought up to date and now also allows you to skip pretty much all of Shadowlands’ content.

What kind of boost is that? For € 60 you can now buy a boost in World of Warcraft, which you can use to promote a character directly to the current maximum level of 60. This means that you don’t have to level in either the old world or the current areas of Shadowlands. Instead, you can jump right in at level 60 and skip the – for some players – boring level process.

This enables direct entry into the endgame, i.e. the pact campaigns, Torghast, Korthia or group activities such as Mythic +, Raids or PvP.

Why is the boost coming now? Blizzard selling boosts in World of Warcraft isn’t a new thing. It was already the case in previous expansions that you could raise a character directly to the current maximum level. As a rule, however, this boost only came with the last patch of the still current expansion and not before.

Why Blizzard is increasing the boost so early this time can only be speculated about. The community has two theories, but both of them could be true at the same time:

  • WoW wants to make it easier to get started and enable a catch-up right up to the current endgame.
  • The boost should increase World of Warcraft’s revenues again in the current quarter.

Is the boost worth it? Everyone will have to decide for themselves whether skipping the level phase is worth a whopping 60 €. The leveling of a new character usually only takes a few evenings – so if you have enough free time, you should save the money. For those who can no longer pull themselves up to complete all the quests again, the boost can definitely be worthwhile.

But note: Next week WoW is celebrating its 17th birthday. There is traditionally an XP boost of 17%, which is active during the entire event. This speeds up the leveling process immensely and could be enough incentive for many to level “by hand”.

It is also important to know that the level boost does not work to unlock the legacy armor of Allied Races (such as Void Elves or Zandalari Trolls). You only get this armor if you level the character without a boss.

Activision Blizzard relies fully on cash shops instead of new games

What’s so exciting about it? Activision Blizzard’s latest annual report shows that the company has made $ 1.2 billion in microtransactions in 3 months.

While new games at Blizzard such as Overwatch 2 or Diablo IV have been postponed, microtransactions in games like Call of Duty: Warzone or World of Warcraft are apparently becoming more and more popular.

Will you hit the level boost? Do you prefer to level in the classic way – or not at all if it’s not fun?
