Sims 4 team is considering changing pronouns, fulfilling fan request

With the test to change the pronouns, a long-cherished dream of many players could come true.

In The Sims 4 players can create exactly the character they want. Regardless of looks, sexuality and play style, life can be made the way you want. For example, any type of clothing can be worn, regardless of gender, and both female and male voices can be selected.

However, non-binary people still feel a bit excluded from the community. Currently there is no way to create a non-binary Sim and to be perceived as such by the environment. But the team behind The Sims 4 is considering fulfilling the community wish.

Genderless address could come

In the latest Twitch stream Inside Maxis 11/23, SimGuruDuck and SimGuruRusskii commented on what the community can expect in the coming months. SimGuruDuck addressed a topic that is currently moving the gaming community: genderless salutation. From minute 32:00 he gives a short update on the current status:

Will the genderless pronouns come? Possible. The Maxis development team is currently checking where adding genderless pronouns would make sense. As early as May 2021, an update was released that added non-binary language to the game by addressing Sims by name instead of He / She.

More updates should be made in the next year. At the beginning of 2022 there will be a new “Inside Maxis” edition, in which the development team will present the data they have collected and provide a forecast for the genderless pronouns.

Non-binary people feel left out

Where does the desire come from? The origin of this request is a petition from Twitch Streamer Momo Misfortune. Momo is a non-binary person herself and has on change.org launched a petition seeking 25,000 signatures to introduce pronouns for trans people and non-binary people in The Sims 4.

Although the goal has not yet been fully achieved, the team is already taking the request very seriously and is examining how the pronouns can be implemented in the game. In this way, all Sims can finally be perceived by their environment as the player wants it to be.
