Valorant: Team hires 18-year-olds as professionals – fires him quickly after allegations by the ex-girlfriend

The e-sports team VIRUTOSO hired an 18-year-old player as a professional for the online shooter Valorant, but overlooked an important detail during the background check: When the community sounded the alarm, the team fired the player. He now swears to change.

This is the situation:

  • The North American esports team VIRTUOSO was looking for a 5th player for their Valorant team and found him in Anthony “Okeanos” Nguyen, who was just 18 years old. An American with roots in Asia who has 722 followers on Twitch and is apparently an excellent Valorant player.
  • After the team announced on Friday, November 26th that they were hiring, there was headwind from the community. It was said that a “child pornography distributor” had been hired.
  • The team then separated from the player on Monday, November 29th.

16-year-old ex-girlfriend says player shared nude pictures of her

What is the charge against the player? At the end of July, a 16-year-old Twitter user made serious allegations against Okeanos. She said she was with him for about 3 weeks before breaking the relationship because Okeans was trying to move forward too quickly without a real connection being formed (via twitter).

After the relationship ended, Okeanos wrote to many of his and her friends saying how sad he was. She understood that as manipulation to put pressure on her to take him back.

The Twitter user says she is not proud of it, but she had sent Okeanos nude photos of herself, but had already asked him several times not to save them, but to delete them. He had assured her that too and she believed it. In retrospect, she describes this as “stupid” and “naive”.

When he got angry with her a few days later out of jealousy, he started to send these pictures to different people on the Discord server.

The Twitter user said in June:

  • Okeanos is 17 and will be 18 in November.
  • She is now 16 years old.

She was incredibly angry with herself for having put herself in a situation in which she was so vulnerable.

The reactions were extremely negative.

This is how the team reacts: When the team was made aware of these allegations in July by angry Twitter users, they announced they would fire the player, temporarily withdraw from gaming and look for a new player.

Player says he has lost a scholarship, is on therapy

This is how Okeanos reacts: He says that while he was 17 years old he made “a serious mistake in his judgment”. But he immediately apologized. In addition, he was already doped at that time and lost his scholarship at the school because it also revealed what he had done (via twitter).

Okeanos now says that he is looking for help and, with the help of the school, has started therapy.

He respects VIRTUOSO’s decision to fire him and wants to apologize to the whole community, but especially to his ex-girlfriend.

The situation, but not the mistake, is reminiscent of the streamer LunarKats, who was also a professional player for a few days until she caught up with her past:
