Medieval Dynasty – Test, Simulation

On your own

Medieval Dynasty has already passed a long period of early access, so some of you may already be familiar with it. For everyone else, we want to summarize the fundamentals as briefly as possible at this point: You slip into the role of a young man who has to find his way in medieval Europe and, above all, has to stand on his own two feet. With empty pockets in the truest sense of the word you arrive at a small village and receive the briefly formulated and overwhelming task of founding your own dynasty … Nothing easier than that …

A special feature of a survival game is already revealed in the initial phase: You receive the task in the form of a quest such as you know from role-playing games or MMOs. In addition to a higher-level mission, which serves as a general guideline for the entire game, there are also some smaller tasks that are easier and, above all, faster to complete. For example, you have to kill a wild animal, build your own hut or find certain goods. This quest system, even if it is kept relatively superficial, is a rarity in survival games. The developers generally merge genres – at least to some extent. With this they try mostly successfully, but often only superficially, to win new facets from the classic “survival”. The quests in Medieval Dynasty are not particularly profound and rather serve to show you alternative options for action if you don’t know exactly what else to do in the huge world.

Every beginning is difficult

Welcome to the world of the Middle Ages. But you shouldn’t be fooled: Instead of camp fire romance, there is a tough struggle for survival mixed with building strategy and role play.

This does not change anything in the basic game principle: You start with empty hands and have to ensure your own survival – otherwise the planned dynasty will be over very quickly. So that you get a roof over your head as quickly as possible, you first set out to get the raw materials you need to build your house, such as wood and thatch. Filling a tree with your bare hands, however, logically doesn’t work, so you have to make the right tools first. So I quickly collected a few stones and twigs and made a primitive hammer and a simple ax out of them. At least here you will be introduced to the construction part of Medieval Dynasty. You will find all the items that you can manufacture in a suitable radial menu. It’s quick, but sometimes a bit cumbersome – especially if you want to build multiple copies of the same item. By the way, you will gradually unlock other objects, ranging from weapons and tools to decorative objects or even other buildings.

Unreal technology sometimes conjures up very attractive moods on the monitor.

However, all of this takes time. Even the construction of the first house takes a lot of work and effort, not to mention an entire settlement. Because collecting raw materials and working on it is not enough – after all, Medieval Dynasty is not only a construction game, but also a survival game. You have to take care of hunger and thirst and, if possible, take breaks to relax. In other words: we need water and food. You start with a few rations, but they run out quickly. But the search for food also logically takes time – a constant cycle of work is created. Oh yes, then there are also the different seasons with their peculiarities, which present you with additional challenges. After all, you certainly don’t want to die a death, do you?
