Nvidia reveals new details about the cheaper graphics card – release supposedly in a few days

The current hardware shortage has some surprises on offer. Nvidia has now confirmed indirectly that they are relaunching an old graphics card. This is the RTX 2060, which should be upgraded.

It is currently difficult to get a cheap graphics card because you pay a hefty surcharge on computer hardware everywhere.

Nvidia had already stated that prices will remain high in 2022 and that there is currently no prospect of improvement.

It has long been speculated that Nvidia would like to upgrade the RTX 2060. But so far these were all just guesses and there was no real, solid evidence for such a graphics card. Now, however, Nvidia has provided clear evidence that such a graphics card could come very soon. We are already talking about next week.

RTX 2060 gets more video memory and should be available in early December

Where does the information come from? On the one hand, the information comes from Nvidia itself, because the manufacturer had updated both its product page with the 12 GB model and its driver information (via pcgamer.com). On the other hand, sites like Videocardz want additional sources that are not explained in more detail (via videocardz.com)

When should the graphics card be available? Videocardz magazine reports that Nvidia is planning to release the RTX 2060 12 GB on December 7th. After all, that would be next Tuesday.

However, it is not yet known how expensive the graphics card will be and how readily it will be available. You currently pay at least 530 euros for a GeForce RTX 2060 (via geizhals.de), but the recommended retail price (RRP) for the RTX 2060 is 299 euros.

RTX 2060 12 GB does not offer all the functions of an RTX 3060

What should the graphics card offer? Nvidia wants to give the old RTX 2060 a memory upgrade. So far, the RTX 2060 has only been available with 6 GB of video memory. Now there should be an RTX 2060 with 12 GB of video memory.

In comparison, the RTX 3060 offered around 8% more performance than the RTX 2060 super. If you look at the current specifications of the RTX 2060 12 GB, then the models are about the same performance level. Compared to the previous RTX 2060 Super, the 12 GB model should consume around 10 watts more (184 watts vs 175 watts TDP).

Basically, you should consider that the RTX 2060 is a graphics card that came onto the market in January 2019 and still relies on the old graphics chip from Nvidia (Turing).

  • The graphics card does not support PCIe 4.0
  • ResizableBAR support is also not included
  • The ray tracing performance is also lower than with the new RTX generation.

RTX 2060 is aimed at beginners in gaming

Who should buy such a graphics card? The RTX 2060 is aimed primarily at people who want to gamble in Full HD or WQHD with reduced details.

Especially for users who are looking for a graphics card and in the current situation are either not ready to spend hundreds of euros on a GPU or could not buy a graphics card, an RTX 2060 could definitely be an alternative.

Interested users could still not buy an RTX 3000 graphics card, but at least graphics cards would be available for gamers and users would not have to pay thousands of euros for graphics cards on eBay, because scalpers are greedy.
