When you think of It Takes Two, the first thing that comes to mind is this year’s co-op adventure. Within the video game industry there is also the publisher Take-Two, which, among other things, sells games by Rockstar Games. Actually, both have nothing to do with each other, but now one is suing the other. The reason: the similarity of names.

It Takes Two: The trademark rights are more complicated than expected

Hazelight, the studio behind It Takes Two, was hit by a brand claim. This comes from Take-Two and was hit at the beginning of the year before the game was released. It has now been revealed that Hazelight is actually the Abandoned ownership of the name hat.

Still unknown what happened: In one Statement an Eurogamer Hazelight only stressed that the studio was not talking about ongoing negotiations. However, the problems should soon be resolved.

What does that mean? It is not yet entirely clear how Hazelight will now deal with the claim. They might have to change the name of the game again. Even with a possible sequel, they would have to move away from the It Takes Two name completely.

Take-Two is suing everywhere these days: Hazelight is just one of many companies that currently have to take on the publisher. Trademark rights have been claimed all over the world, including names such as Rockstar, Social Club, Mafia, Civilization and more.

It is currently not clear why companies and games that even have a name reminiscent of Take-Two are running into problems now. The publisher has not yet commented on the whole thing.

Apart from that, It Takes Two is one of the best games of the year. Why are you reading the test here on GamePro.de:

A few years ago there was already a wave of brand claims when companies like King tried to secure the rights to normal terms like candy and saga. The launch of the PS5 in India was also about to end, as there were also problems with trademark law there.

What name would you give It Takes Two if you had to change it?
