Sony is reportedly bringing its own Game Pass for PS4 and PS5 with PS Plus

The Game Pass is currently a strong offer if you want to enjoy games as a flat rate. Now there are rumors that Sony wants to prepare a similar offer for the PS4 and PS5. MeinMMO explains to you what it’s about.

You can currently subscribe to two different services on PS4 and PS5 with PS Plus and PS Now. But now the online magazine Bloomberg had announced that Sony is probably working on a new project called “Spartacus” (via bloomberg.com).

Where does the information come from? The information comes from people who are familiar with Sony’s plans and also from documents that Bloomberg claims to have seen. Additional information comes from someone who does not want to be named because he did not have permission to speak to the press.

Behind “Spartacus” there is probably a completely new subscription model with which Sony supposedly wants to offer new competition for Microsoft’s Game Pass.

New subscription model is to combine PS Plus and PS Now

How is the current situation? At the current time (December 4th, 2021) there is PS Plus and PS Now. PS Plus is currently a requirement for most online games and offers a few free games. PlayStation Now gives you the option to stream or download older games.

In the new subscription model, Sony supposedly wants to convert these two systems into one and offer even more functions. There should be a total of three levels of the subscription model:

• The first tier would include the familiar PS Plus benefits like multiplayer and a few free games.
• The second tier, similar to Game Pass, would make some PS4 games available for free.
• The third tier would offer advanced demos, game streaming, and a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games.

New subscription model should be available on the PS4 and PS5

Where can I use the new subscription? According to Bloomberg, the new subscription should be available on both PS4 and PS5 and should give you access to numerous games.

It is probably not surprising that the PS4 should also benefit from the new subscription, since the PlayStation 4 has been sold over 100 million times and many users are still playing on the old console. Because the PS5 is constantly sold out everywhere and is hardly available.

However, it could well be possible that Sony will make the new subscription model a little more extensive for subscribers with PS5, just as Microsoft makes certain games in its Game Pass only available to Xbox players. Sony also provides PS5 owners with the PS Plus Collection with 20 free games to which PS4 players do not have access. But this is only a conjecture and has not been confirmed by any side.
