Why you as a gamer barely have a chance to buy a graphics card

Are you trying to buy a graphics card for your gaming PC? Two experts have now explained in an interview why gamers currently hardly have a chance of getting a graphics card in a fair way.

Graphics cards and PS5 consoles are currently a rare commodity and are either hardly available or you have to pay thousands of euros on eBay for a graphics card.

Even if many users are prepared to spend a lot of money on a graphics card, only a few are willing to deal with greedy scalpers. But the situation is unlikely to get much better in the future either.

Now, in a conversation with TheVerge, two users said that an average gamer currently hardly has a chance to buy a graphics card (via theverge.com). The two people run a Discord and ensure that gamers can also buy a graphics card. They are now also developing bots for this purpose, as there is no chance today on a fair route.

Because on the market, retailers, bots and scalpers would fight each other with tools to get graphics cards. A few people who are just trying to get a graphics card for their gaming would have no real chance in the current situation.

Honest buyers have no chance of buying a graphics card

This is currently the big problem: It is normal for honest buyers to take the goods off the shelf and then go to the checkout with them. But bots, the two explain, would simply skip standing in line.

The bots would just use a back door and just buy whatever items they have – while everyone else is still waiting in line, hoping for a product.

In their interview, the two script developers explain how annoyed they are with this situation:

Ultimately, it is bots and scalpers that drive up the price of these goods and give them higher profit margins. Some retailers may even be happy because they can ship the goods on a pallet, which saves them a ton of money on shipping costs.

Basically, you have to invest hundreds of hours to save a few hundred euros. It is very lucky if you can get a graphics card for a good price in a few hours.

Many users do not sit at their computers for days either because they have so much fun looking for a graphics card or because they have the time to do it because of Corona. People want to do something together and gaming is one of the few ways to do something with friends at a time with Corona.

It’s not just about “I’m going to be spending a hundred hours here because I just want GPUs” – it’s the social aspect, the community, the shared interest with other people.

In the meantime, the two users have also started to develop various scripts and tools. Because some dealers are so heavily occupied by bots that you have to develop your own tools to get past the other bots.

In the end, the hope is at least to help a few gamers get a graphics card. But you are never sure because many users hide behind the anonymity and of course scalpers or miners can also use these scripts.

And scalpers and miners cannot be prevented anyway, because they are clever and have no desire to forego a possible profit. The two operators would also get money from the graphics card purchases thanks to affiliate links, but they could not lead a luxury life with them.

Gamers who had received a graphics card would never appear again in the Discord afterwards because they finally got what they wanted. Scalpers would often never get in touch, because they would know that the operators would kick them straight out of the Discord.
