Guild Wars 2 finds creative ways to upgrade boring Legendarys – and players celebrate

Guild Wars 2 gets 16 new legendary weapons with the new expansion End of Dragons. They looked really boring in a teaser. But with an ingenious trick, the developers made the weapons interesting with little effort. And that goes down really well with the players.

What kind of weapons are these? The new legendary weapons from the End of Dragons expansion all have the same style. They all revolve around the ancient dragon Aurene and therefore have a very similar appearance. These include the crystal structure and the prismatic glow.

These weapons were really badly received by the players, because Guild Wars 2 is actually known for very creative legendary weapons.

There is a scepter with an animal accompanying you, a powerful weapon that adjusts its appearance depending on the time of day or night, or a shield that is a kind of aquarium.

Guild Wars 2 Legendary Shuushadoo
In the legendary Shuushadoo shield there is a quaggan in a glass.

But now the developers have revealed new details about the weapons. Because every weapon comes in 6 versions. Each of these versions is colored differently and assigned to a different old dragon. In addition, each weapon still only has to be manufactured once and each color is linked to a new story at the same time.

96 instead of 16 new weapons

How exactly does it work? Anyone who makes one of the new legendary weapons will first receive the prismatic version, which is assigned to the dragon Aurene. But precisely because it is the prism, you can also produce the colors of the Elder Dragons that have been defeated so far. 16 Legendarys are now a total of 96 weapons.

For the time being, there should only be the version of Aurene for the release. The 5 others should then come into play after the release.

The developers used the greatsword to show exactly how the variants look:

What do the legendary weapons offer? Each of the new legendary weapons offers the following special features:

  • A fatal blow to match the respective Elder Dragon (for Aurene a rainbow that pours down from above and leaves a crater with prisms)
  • Own footprints

In addition, as with any other legendary weapon, you can change the optics, the values, the sigils and runes at any time.

How do you get the guns? The new Legendarys will again need a precursor that you can create using crafting. In order to build the finished weapon at the end, you have to visit a mystical smithy.

However, you shouldn’t have to build a new weapon for every skin. The precursor, for example, is sufficient once. Exact details on how to get the individual skins will be shared in the future.

What is special about the Legendarys from End of Dragons, however, is that you can sell them at the trading post, just like the 1st generation. The weapons from the Hearth of Thorns expansion, however, still cannot be traded.

Will there be underwater legendaries? No. Since only 16 legendary weapons come into play, the 3 underwater weapons are left out again.

Players celebrate the idea for the new Legendarys

How are the players reacting to the change? While the legendary weapons caused a lot of negative reactions when the End of Dragons was announced, the players are very satisfied with the different colors and the adapted animations:

  • MovieTrailerReply writes about im reddit: “I have to say: I love this decision. It makes me a lot more curious about the new Legendarys. I can’t wait to unlock the destroyer variant. “
  • Triddy was one of the critics of the legendary weapons (via reddit): “I was very critical of the Legendarys. I will admit it and say publicly that this has turned my mind 180 degrees. Assuming “in the future” is not on the timescale of legendary armor [Anmerkung d. R.: Von der Ankündigung bis zum Release hat es über 2 Jahre bei der legendären Rüstung gedauert].”
  • FracOMac is particularly looking forward to the fatal blows: “That completely changes my opinion about the set of weapons. I am particularly excited about the on-kill effects that have already been mentioned ”(via reddit).

When do the guns appear? The weapons will be released along with the new End of Dragons expansion in February 2022. This is accompanied by new areas, new elite specializations and the fishing feature.

Finally, the new mount, the siege turtle, provided a lot of fun and excitement:

In Guild Wars 2 you can just test the coolest mount that has ever been in MMORPGs
