Pokémon GO: 7 tips to get you through the cold season

The days are getting colder and colder in Germany and it’s time for trainers in Pokémon GO to prepare for the winter months. So that you can play hard even in the cold season, we have put together 7 helpful tips.

What is it about? Pokémon GO is about getting outside, moving, and discovering new places of interest. But the temperatures are now getting cooler every day and this makes playing more difficult for you.

However, this is no reason to forego the game. We have therefore put together 7 tips for cold winter days for you.

1. Weatherproof clothing

One of the most important tips is weatherproof clothing, because you should be warmly dressed in the winter months. This of course primarily includes a hat, scarf and gloves.

With the gloves, make sure that you can continue to use your smartphone with them. Nothing is more annoying when you see an interesting Pokémon and then have to take off your gloves to catch it. Or if you can’t hold your phone properly with your gloves on.

We have listed suitable touchscreen gloves with which you can both play Pokémon GO and get warm hands:

2. Lots of exercise

Even in cool temperatures, a daily walk is healthy. In addition to wearing weatherproof clothing, you should, above all, always keep moving. So it’s best to think about which route you want to run beforehand. Avoid long waiting times.

To keep yourself warm on the go, you can also put on one or the other warming gadget. For example, use a pocket warmer or take a thermos with hot tea. Of course, you can also find them in the typical Pokémon design.

3. Faster catches

Quick catch trick: So that you don’t have to stand forever with many spawns to laboriously catch all the monsters, the quick catch trick is particularly useful in winter. To do this, click on your Pokémon as usual. Before you try to catch it, however, you drag your Poké Ball symbol at the bottom right of the screen to the left to hold it there.

With the other hand you can now throw the ball as usual. As soon as you have met the monster, you can take your fingers off the screen and exit the capture mask using the symbol in the upper left corner. Now the monster on the map can either be clicked again because it did not stay in the ball, or it disappears. In this case, you either caught the Pokémon or it escaped.

Aids: If you don’t want to make the effort yourself, you can alternatively rely on various gadgets. The Poké Ball Plus or Pokémon Go Plus offer you the option of automatically turning at nearby stops and trying to catch the monsters for you.

4. Use lock modules and smoke

In winter, however, you can also play from the comfort of your home. Make yourself comfortable on the couch and sit down with a smoke. This will attract wild Pokémon for 60 minutes, which you can catch. If you are lucky enough to have a PokeStop near you, you can also use a lure module, which will attract more monsters.

Activate wonder box: Those who can no longer see the wild spawns also have the option of opening the wonder box. To do this, however, you have to connect to the Nintendo Switch or Pokémon Home so that you can activate it. Similar to smoke, it works for a whole hour.

However, you do not attract any wild monsters, but the mysterious Pokémon Meltan. His further development, Melmetal, is a solid attacker and can particularly convince in the champions league (via pvpoke.com). For this reason, this is a good opportunity to get hold of a strong specimen and collect as many candies as possible.

But be careful: While you have ignited the wonder box, you are not allowed to put any more smoke, because both do not work at the same time!

5. Participate in remote raids

Even if you don’t have an arena in your immediate vicinity, you can take part in raids from the comfort of your home. The reason for this is the remote raid passes introduced as part of the corona pandemic. Just let friends around the world invite you to raids or invite them yourself.

You still need friends for raids? In the following article we have summarized how you can find friends in Pokémon GO:

6. Swap and send Pokémon

To deceive: Anyone who has caught numerous monsters in the summer and never had the time to clean them out should use the cold season for this. But before you just send all of the unpleasant Pokémon, you should swap them with friends. With a little luck, you will receive a Lucky Pokémon.

Especially in the season of origin, which runs from December 1st to March 1st, swapping the monsters is particularly worthwhile. You will receive an additional candy as well as a guaranteed XL candy with every exchange made.

You can carry out up to 100 exchanges per day. The odds of getting a Lucky Pokémon are usually around 1 in 25.

Tip for sending: Time and again, Niantic offers you double candy for sending Pokémon. So if you do not have an urgent need for space, then it is also a good idea if you pre-sort your monsters via tags. If there is a corresponding bonus, you only have to send the copies with this day.

Pokémon GO Tags
This is how you set tags in Pokémon GO

How do you set tags? Setting tags in the game is very easy. You open your Pokémon repository and click on the “Tags” category in the upper left corner. Then you can use the plus to create a new day. Then you switch back to your Pokémon.

Finally, hold down all monsters that you want to assign this day to longer. This opens a selection window in which you can set the day. If you now open the view of your tag again, you can find all assigned copies under it.

7. Other activities in the warm

PvP battles: If you don’t really enjoy playing raids, you can try your hand at the GO battle league and compete against other trainers there. You don’t have to leave the house in icy temperatures for this either.

On top of that, you will receive valuable stardust, items and, depending on your rank, encounters with special Pokémon such as Lin-Fu, eF-eM or Wrestler-Pikachu for the fights you have won.

Platinum Medals: If you are still on your way to level 50, this time of year is a good time to work on your platinum medals. To reach level 49 you need 35 of them. There are numerous different medals in the game, so you have a wide range of which you want to bring to platinum.

Among other things, you can catch 2,500 of each Pokémon type, swap a certain number of monsters, occupy and defend arenas, take part in raids or PvP battles or improve your friendship with other players.

Rate PokéStops: Would you like to try something different? Then rate new PokéStops on the Wayfarer platform or submit new suggestions for your region. With this you will do yourself and other trainers a big favor and maybe a new, interesting place will soon emerge in your area.

However, in order to be able to submit or rate new suggestions, you need at least player level 38.
