The boss of Final Fantasy XIV explains why mistakes occur that annoy everyone

At the start of the new Endwalker expansion by Final Fantasy XIV users have to struggle with a number of errors and problems. Now the boss of Final Fantasy XIV explains why the problems arise in the first place.

This is what it’s about: As of December 3rd, pre-orderers of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker can take a look at the latest expansion. But there are already a number of problems that users are struggling with.

Most of the errors are annoying connection interruptions, so that you are thrown in the queue by the server and the whole wait starts all over again.

Now Naoki Yoshida, Producer & Director of FINAL FANTASY XIV, has spoken out and explained how to solve the problems (via finalansyxiv.com)

Final Fantasy XIV: Errors 4004, 3001, and 2002 are driving gamers crazy

These are the errors: There are currently three annoying bugs that keep players busy and prevent them from entering the game.

  • Error 4004 occurs mainly when the servers are overloaded and the queue results in an error.
  • Error 3001 occurs whenever servers allow players to log in beyond the maximum player limit.
  • If the total number of players waiting in the data center exceeds 17,000, you will see the 2002 error.

This is how the problems should be solved: Yoshida stated in his post that they want to get the problems under control in the coming days. There will be maintenance work on the login servers on December 8th. One would like to take care of the following problems:

  • The source code for the lobby server has been corrected for error 4004, but that takes even more time because it is a complex process. It will take a while before the error is corrected.
  • To minimize error 3001, increase the number of network connections to a maximum.
  • To reduce the 2002 error, the maximum number of players on a data center is increased from 17,000 to 21,000 players.

Hardware scarcity prevents new servers from being built

At the current time (as of December 7th, 2021) Final Fantasy XIV has more players than ever before. With over 90,000 simultaneous players, Final Fantasy broke a new player record on Steam.

The simplest solution would be to set up new servers to accommodate the many new players. But here Yoshida already explained that this is currently not that easy. Because in order to set up new servers, the team would need new servers – and they need semiconductors.

Due to the corona pandemic, however, the semiconductors are severely limited, so that the team is not getting any new hardware for servers. And the team cannot estimate how long this shortage will last.
