Forspoken appears console-exclusive for the PS5 and wants to do some things differently. It starts with the chic game world, extends over the dynamic traversal, the mixture of battles and magic to the worlds that collide here. This becomes particularly clear in the New Yorker Frey, who is catapulted into a fantasy world in which there are tons of mythical creatures and magic. In addition, only women rule the fate of the world there, so it is a matriarchally organized society.

Forspoken should also differ from our world through its matriarchal society

What’s the matter? To Forspoken, an open world action RPG slated for console exclusive release on PS5 in May 2022. The Square Enix game is also coming for the PC, but not for the Xbox Series S / X for now. As GamePro, we were able to take a closer look at Forspoken and its gameplay as part of a preview event. However, that left us a bit ambivalent:

The world of Athia is special: In Forspoken we or Frey end up in Athia. This world looks pretty at first, but also extremely threatening, unknown and confusing. In an interview, creative producer Raio Mitsuno tells us what is special about Athia and where the inspiration for the setting comes from.

Long live matriarchy! One of the most important points was to create something new that is clearly different from our normal world. This works very easily via magic, of course, but also via the fact that society in Forspoken is fundamentally differently organized than is the case with us. In Forspoken, women are in charge.

“When we first developed concepts for the project, we wanted to create this fantasy world with a lot of magic and a society that is different from ours – a matriarchal society where women are in power and more empowered. […]

We looked for the best way to create Athia – this magic fantasy world – and focused on the dynamic there created by the rule of the Tantas who watch over the world and keep the peace. “

It should be really exciting to see how this basic idea ultimately affects the story and maybe also the gameplay of Forspoken. The setting seems to be pleasantly unspent and refreshingly original, even if the game world seems a bit empty and lifeless at the moment. But who knows, maybe we don’t really notice it when we’re whizzing through the open world so fast.

How do you find the idea of a matriarchal society? What do you think of Forspoken?
