Festive Fervor starts on December 17th

When does the event last? The developer blog for the event is a bit inaccurate. While the roadmap states December 17th as the start, the blog itself states that the event will start after the update in Warzone and Vanguard (via callofduty.com).

These are the dates for the updates:

  • Vanguard Christmas Update: December 16 at 6 a.m.
  • Warzone Christmas Update: December 17th at 6am

A start in Vanguard would be possible after the update and that also applies to Warzone. If the event starts in both games at the same time, it will start on December 17th at the latest. going at 6 o’clock.

How big will the downloads be? There is currently no information on this. More than 10 GB per game shouldn’t come together, rather less.

What presents do I get? If you are a buyer of CoD: Vanguard, there is a small batch of Christmas bonuses for you:

CoD Warzone: Festive Fervor brings worthwhile Christmas trees

What happens in Warzone at the event? A total of 3 new mechanics sneak into Caldera and Rebirth Island, which should change the dynamics of the matches slightly during the event:

  • Christmas trees with the finest loot
  • Krampus goes on a bounty hunt
  • Screaming elves give away items

Lootable Christmas trees: Christmas trees are marked on the map and if you visit the festively decorated fir trees and stay nearby, loot boxes or special festive boxes with a higher chance of good loot appear magically.

The festive boxes can also be found everywhere else on the map and offer not only increased drop opportunities for legendary items but also coal pieces for the naughty soldiers. The boxes look like presents.

Angry Krampus: The nasty Christmas grouch begins a few minutes after the start of a match with the hunt for a random player. If you catch the NPC, there are extra bonuses for your round.

His hunt lasts 3 minutes and Krampus doesn’t manage to pay off his bounty, he looks for the next team.

Helping elves: Also on the maps – elves who yell at you if you get too close to them within 10 meters and give out rewards, you should shoot them to death.

There are gifts under the tree.

You can also unlock up to 7 thematic cosmetics through certain tasks. There will be 6 tasks in Warzone for this and if you complete all 6, there will be a weapon blueprint for an LMG on top.

CoD Vanguard: Festive Fervor lets Christmas NPC loose on you

What happens in Vanguard at the event? For the time of the event there are apparently a few crazy NPCs in the game, some of whom are even targeting campers. There are also a few festively decorated areas and a new game mode:

  • Armageddon as a game mode
  • Elves hide on the maps
  • Krampus chases lazy operators
  • Festively decorated map in multiplayer and zombies

Armageddon: The game mode works similarly to “Drop Zone”, which is already known from previous CoD games.

A zone appears that you have to occupy as a team and killstreaks appear in supply packages. The longer teams hold the zone, the more killstreaks you get for the team. After a while, the zone then changes position.

Unlike in “Drop Zone”, however, in Armageddon only kills count as objective points and there are extra points if you break up an opponent with a killstreak.

Elves: The “Elf Team Six” hangs around in different game modes and is waiting to be caught by you. If you shoot an elf, you get match points and rewards such as killstreaks.

However, the blog also reads like the elves get angry if you don’t catch them.

A tattooed elf with a dagger doesn’t look so nice now …

Krampus: The angry Christmas bully is actually a very nice guy in Vanguard.

In modes with objectives such as “position” or “rule”, Krampus hunts down players who collect too few points through conquests. Apparently this applies to all game modes, with the exception of the “Armageddon” event mode.

Even in Team Deathmatch, Krampus is out and about, looking for victims who camp too long on one point.

Krampus can be killed – but if he gets too close, he will destroy you with a special Krampus enforcer.

Festive decorations: There are a couple of things that can be adorned with Christmas decorations.

This includes the small chaos map Shipment, which becomes “Shipmas” during the event. But the control center in the zombie mode “The Beginning” should also evoke festive feelings.

The trailer also shows the attack dogs from the killstreaks, who wear Rudolf-like disguises.

Free weekend and bundle deals

As a further little extra, CoD: Vanguard opens the server for all interested players with the start of the event:

  • CoD: Vanguard from December 16. until 21.12. playable for free

So if you want to take a look at the new CoD or level up weapons from Warzone, you will have a long weekend for that.

If you also have some budget left over from your Christmas purchases, there will be many reduced skin bundles in Warzone, Vanguard and Cold War during the event that want to steal your thaler.

Warzone and Vanguard are celebrating the festive season with a colorful event, where especially the crazy NPCs sound like fun. It remains to be seen whether the mechanics provide a certain degree of relaxation, but the idea behind it sounds quite interesting.

More exciting at least than the newest type of cosmetics that have found their way into the game: CoD Vanguard now even sells skins for killcams – “What in God’s name is that?”
