One of the biggest Twitch streamers banned – Allegedly for saying “Cracker”

The streamer Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker (30) was banned from Twitch on December 14th. According to their own statements, the word “cracker” is said to have been the reason for this. MeinMMO reports what exactly happened.

This is the background:

  • Two moderators in HasanAbis Twitch chat were banned on December 11th for using the word “cracker” – a term used today to insult whites. The streamer found this completely exaggerated and justified it by saying that both were not white (via Twitter).
  • HasanAbi then tried to get a statement from another streamer “Myth” by asking what he thought of the word “Cracker” and that his mods were banned because of it. Myth is also black (via YouTube, from minute 0:50). The comments below the video suspect that HasanAbi wanted to tease out a statement from Myth, who campaigns for his side.
  • HasanAbi repeatedly picked up the topic on his Twitter account. Twitch should also please use the word “Nazi” as a reason for banning, as people use it against white, racist people and it is both racist and unacceptable, according to the streamer (via Twitter).

This is behind the term “Cracker”: In the United States, the term is seen as a racial slur for whites, comparable to the N word for blacks.

Literally translated it means cracker. Different origins of the term can be found. A common reference from earlier ages corresponds to the “cracking of the whips” that slave drivers used to punish or drive.

HasanAbi holds cracker debate with viewer

On December 14th, HasanAbi started a stream in which a viewer spammed “Rhyzohm” into his chat. The viewer does not understand why the word “cracker” is used so lightly as HasanAbi does.

After some messages, HasanAbi invited Rhyzohm to a Discord call to discuss the matter.

Rhyzohm argued that it was not okay to use crackers lightly. You shouldn’t judge people by skin color and origin. HasanAbi has too great a range and, according to Rhyzohm, the audience receives the message that it is okay to just throw around with such words.

HasanAbi replied that the word was of course mean, but not as bad as the N-word, for example. Whites, especially in America, have always been in power and, above all, oppressed blacks.

The streamer said that there could be no racism against whites and he wanted to shake people up in that spirit.

The word “Cracker” is said to be responsible for HasanAbis ban

After the debate with the viewer, HasanAbi was banned on Twitch. He himself wrote a tweet in which he said that the word “cracker” was to blame.

However, Twitch has not yet commented on the incident. So it is not known whether the word or something else is actually responsible for HasanAbis Bann.

The community reacts split under the tweet:

  • Bruce Ray is of the opinion: “The word cracker is not racist.” Other users answer him and think that it can be dismissed as an insult.
  • Commiechrundle is upset: “I’m really upset about it. That’s the stupidest reason to get someone banned from Twitch. “
  • Lichzim agrees to the ban: “Let’s hope it stays banned. He’ll probably be back for the next few days anyway. “
  • IntelDoge and Greekgodx find the ban for: “Good.”

Ex-Twitch streamer Ludwig has suffered a few bans since he switched to YouTube: Ludwig has already been banned 3 times on YouTube, but it still celebrates more than Twitch
