The new game by Peter Molyneux sounds like Factorio as multiplayer, you can even earn real money

The legendary developer Peter Molyneux has presented his latest project, Legacy. The game is to appear in 2022 and will be based entirely on NFTs, blockchain and cryptocurrencies – the first “Blockchain Business Sim”, as it is called.

Who is Peter Molyneux? Molyneux have gamer games like Black & White, Fable and Dungeon Keeper to thank. The now 62-year-old developer has been working on many well-known games since 1982.

He is also known as the creator of the “Gods Games”, a genre in which you as God create your own world. His first game of this type was Populous. Molyneux worked in the past at the well-known studios Bullfrog (EA) and Lionhead (Microsoft).

In 2012 he founded 22cans, his own studio, with which he is now creating his latest creation. This was presented at the Galaverse on December 11th.

What kind of game is this? Legacy is a kind of building simulation in which you manage your own city including factory and workers. You buy a piece of land, build an industry there and produce goods.

You can trade these goods with other players and design what you actually manufacture and what the environment that belongs to your company looks like. You trade and adapt with other players to establish dominance in the open market.

With “Legacy Keys” you can hire NPC workers who take over the production for you. We don’t yet know exactly what the production chains look like, but the automation sounds a lot like games like Factorio or Satisfactory.

The aim is to optimize production. With your products and in competition with other players, you can finally receive LegacyCoin – a crypto currency created especially for Legacy. This should appear in 2022, but so far without specifying the platform.

Make money with NFTs and cryptocurrency

How can i earn money? LegacyCoin is a cryptocurrency that, according to the developer, is on the Ethereum blockchain. It thus has an equivalent in real money, at least insofar as the cryptocurrency itself is covered.

Cryptocurrencies can usually be exchanged for other assets or even valuables such as gold and traditional currencies in so-called wallets. In some cases, cryptocurrency can even be used to make direct purchases.

Legacy is based on the fact that you earn the corresponding coin. This principle is called “pay to earn”, meaning: play to earn. Everything you earn in Legacy should actually be yours.

What are NFTs? “Non Fungible Tokens” are digital objects that are made unique by a signature. Each NFT is therefore only available once. It is a kind of digital collector’s item that clearly belongs to the respective owner thanks to the signature. Thanks to the blockchain, each NFT is unique and cannot be copied or forged.

Normally you have no real entitlement to items from service games. Items that you earn in an MMO, for example, are still part of the game and belong to the publisher. You only “borrow” them to you.

NFTs work more like digital goods that you own and sell or barter. The Steam marketplace has been working in a similar way for years. There you can trade skins and more from Counter-Strike or at that time the cards from the failed Artifact.

NFT is the new trend in gaming in 2021, companies are worth billions of dollars – but why?

The new gaming annoys gamers

NFTs came up some time ago with streamers who sold exclusive pictures or other collectibles of themselves for their viewers and fans. The well-known streamer Indiefoxx, for example, sold clips after she was banned from Twitch.

In some cases, NFTs collect record sums of over 570,000 euros. A number of developers are currently using crypto gaming and NFTs in their games. Ubisoft, for example, is one of the big studios playing with the new technology.

NFTs are controversial and even hated among gamers. There have been cases of fraud and there is a great fear that this is exactly what will happen to gaming on a large scale. Even the speculation in connection with blockchain and crypto currencies does not suit many fans at all.

The fact that developers like Molyneux are now jumping on the bandwagon and explicitly creating NFT games is fueling concerns that traditional games are becoming too uninteresting for the studios. But what do you think of that? Take part in our survey on MeinMMO:
