New old school MMORPG starts directly with 19 raids – no crowdfunding and in-game shop

War of Dragnorox is a new indie MMORPG for PC that has some interesting ideas. It promises dynamic events and even customized maps, depending on a “Real Life Dungeon Master”. In addition, it completely dispenses with crowdfunding, start-up packages or a real money shop. If you want to play the new MMORPG, you need a monthly subscription.

What kind of game is this? War of Dragnorox is an old school sandbox MMORPG in which you can choose from 7 different classes. With these you can then explore an open game world with around 30 zones in which different biomes, dungeons and secrets should await you.

The developers emphasize that their game world should be very dynamic:

  • Every day there should be different events, quests and resources.
  • A “Real Life Dungeon Master” should have control over the game world. This is an employee of the developer studio.
  • He can then let special mobs or treasures appear, but also open and close hidden passages in areas at will.
  • Holiday events and spontaneous attacks on cities are also already being planned.

War of Dragnorox should also be a hardcore game. The players will explore a world that has no clear guidelines, no level scaling and no in-game map. Traveling through this world is said to be difficult, but very rewarding. The UI should also be minimalist and manage completely without damage figures.

Right at the release there should be about 19 raids in which the players can let off steam. According to the developers, an existing endgame has high priority.

This 11-minute trailer, which also shows pre-alpha gameplay, offers you a first glimpse into the game:

Little magic and a return to old equipment systems

What kind of classes are there? The two classes Shadow Renderer and Bonesmith are shown in the video. The classes in War of Dragnorox are primarily based on physical damage. There will be magic in the world, but only to a small extent and only with the help of items.

The shadow renderer, for example, can use shadows to evoke elementals. There will also be poison and bleeding potions and DoTs.

But classic spells, giant fireballs and magical explosions are not used.

What does the game offer in terms of equipment? War of Dragnorox relies on the “old” equipment systems like in EverQuest. So there won’t be a general gear score, but the attributes and bonuses on the equipment play a major role. This means that all drops should have a value.

It is also important to the developers that the equipment also provides strength. Whoever has the perfect gear should be three, four or even five times as strong as another player on the same level.

When trading, you have to rely on other players because there is no auction house. So you have to run straight to another player and interact with him if you want to buy items.

War of Dragnorox Interface
This is what War of Dragnorox looks like in the pre-alpha.

The game is privately funded and is slated to appear in 2023

How is the game financed? War of Dragnorox relies on a subscription model that will cost $ 9.99 per month. However, this $ 9.99 will be the only thing you have to and can invest in the game.

The download itself is free and you don’t have to purchase access to the game. There will also be no in-game shop. Boosters, cosmetic content or additional character slots are completely dispensed with.

Otherwise there is no way to spend money. Access to the beta will be raffled and there will be no crowdfunding or start-up packages either. The MMORPG itself is 100% privately financed until it is released.

What about beta events and releases? On the official website you can already register for a beta now. However, it is not known exactly when this will start.

The release of War of Dragnorox is planned for the 3rd quarter of 2023.

What do you think of the information so far and the gameplay shown? Is the MMORPG interesting for you or do you prefer to wait for another game? Feel free to write it in the comments.

Just recently another, new MMORPG was presented, which is being developed in Unreal Engine 5:
