CoD Warzone: Update 1.50 brings anti-cheat for PC today – are cheaters history now?

Call of Duty: Warzone rolled out its major update 1.50 today, introducing the PC driver for its new anti-cheat system “RICOCHET” worldwide. There were also bug fixes and a few balance adjustments. MeinMMO shows the patch notes and answers the question: “Are there still cheaters?”.

The essentials in brief:

  • The free battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone recently went with the Pacific update on a new map and wanted to introduce a kernel driver on the PC at the same time as part of the new anti-cheat system “RICOCHET”
  • The community had high hopes for the new PC driver and was disappointed when the program only went online for the release in the Asia / Pacific region
  • With the new update 1.50, the kernel driver for the PC went online worldwide

When is the update coming? The new update 1.50 is already online.

How big is the update? The update has gotten pretty big – on PC and on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Calculates with 15 to 17 GB.

It is possible that content from the Christmas event came into play. There should be another update for this on the morning of December 17th.

What does the update change? The highlight is the activation of the kernel driver on the PC. This is a small program that now runs while you play Warzone on the PC.

The driver examines the interactions of programs on your PC with Warzone and tries to identify suspicious behavior and to recognize patterns that help in the detection of cheaters. You can find an overview with answers to the kernel driver here:

Kernel driver is online – are there no more cheaters?

The cheaters will not completely disappear from the game with the new kernel driver on the PC. The driver is not a cheat detector that immediately detects and reports every suspicious program.

Think of it as just another diagnostic tool. Together with the server-side measures of the new RICOCHET system, CoD would like to discover more cheaters, but there is still no guarantee that they will discover all of them.

If a cheater is caught as a result of the measures, the developers now have the opportunity with the new kernel driver to better understand the processes on the cheater PC and to clarify important questions:

  • How do cheat programs interact with Warzone?
  • What abnormalities can you discover in other cheaters?
  • How do cheat programs hide from detection?

This allows those responsible to recognize patterns and apply them when discovering other cheaters. However, even with the kernel driver, it is not possible to fully discover all cheaters in one fell swoop.

“RICOCHET” is finally completely online and it will be exciting to see whether the new kernel driver on the PC will provide the desired relief for the cheater problem.

At the moment, however, there are also some weapons in the game that provide a powerful advantage even without cheats: New Sniper gives you easy kills in CoD Warzone – experts find them “massively overpowered”
