Cyberpunk 2077 maker gets off cheaply

Once again, CD Projekt Red got off lightly or cheaply in a legal dispute with investors about the messed up sales start of its sci-fi role-playing game “Cyberpunk 2077”: According to US media reports, the Polish game manufacturer has now settled the dispute out of court and pays only 1 for it , $ 85 million.

“Cyberpunk 2077” was released after several postponements on December 10th for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. However, the sci-fi role-playing game quickly made a name for itself on the two consoles due to numerous technical deficiencies. CD Projekt Red apologized to the fans and promised them a full reimbursement of the costs. Despite this, Sony took the title from its PlayStation Store shortly afterwards. In the lawsuit brought in California, investor Andrew Trampe had accused CD-Projekt-Red founder and president Adam Michal Kincinski and two other managers of the game company of providing false and misleading information to have. The game is technically in such bad condition that it is practically unplayable, at least on PS4 and Xbox One. Contrary to the expectations aroused, investors suffered “significant” damage. Regardless of the game’s good sales figures – more than 17.3 million copies have been sold since its release – the development studio’s share has lost more than half of its value year-on-year. With the settlement of the dispute by paying 1.85 million dollars, CD Projekt Red should get away with it more than lightly: According to GamesIndustry.biz, the development budget of more than 316 million dollars was brought back in through the digital pre-orders alone.
