Postcard book in Pokémon GO – How it works and what bothers trainers about it

A new feature has now been released in Pokémon GO: the postcard book. We at MeinMMO have taken a look at what kind of function this is and show you the first reactions from the trainers.

What kind of feature is it about? The Christmas event is currently being celebrated in Pokémon GO. Just in time for the start, Niantic announced the postcard book as a new feature on their blog (via pokemongolive.com). This should give you the opportunity to save certain places as a nice memory. We’ll show you how to do it.

What is the postcard book?

As the name suggests, the postcard book is about storing postcards. These should remind you of visiting beautiful places. It is possible to collect the postcards received from friends as well as your own, which are on the gifts in the item bag.

You can find your new postcard book in your item bag. You can also open it under the item “Postcard Book” in your avatar view. Clicking on the book opens an overview of which cards you have already collected.

Adding new cards works in two different ways, depending on whether it is your own card or that of a friend.

Own postcard: To put your own postcard in your book, open your item bag. There you click on the gifts so that they open in a selection window. You then have the opportunity to choose the appropriate package there. Click on it and press the “Save” button. Now the card is stored in your postcard book.

Postcards from friends: Of course, you can also leave postcards that you received from friends’ parcels. To do this, click into your friends list as usual and display the desired gift.

Before you open it, you have the option of clicking on the pin symbol on the right-hand side of the screen. With this you have also saved this card and you will get it displayed in the postcard book.

What does the community say about the postcard book?

The new feature is being hotly debated in the reddit community. One or the other trainer, like BroBroBrayBray, is happy about the new function and writes: “I’m so happy about this function, which was long overdue. I no longer have to worry about accidentally shipping them. ” (via reddit.com).

In fact, in the past it has happened to some coaches that they wanted to withhold gifts because of the postcards so that they could be great memories. JULTAR also reports that he accidentally sent such a package, although he wanted to keep it (via reddit.com).

Due to the function in the postcard book, this can no longer happen because the picture can be saved. Reddit also mentions the possibility of favoring certain postcards and giving your favorite picture of this stop a like (via reddit.com).

Criticism of the postcard book

However, the postcard book has to take some criticism. The trainer FatalisticFeline-47 has listed a number of things that bother him about this new feature. He also lists the following points of criticism (via reddit.com):

• Storage limit of 300 postcards
• Gifts from a friend can be pinned multiple times, but they can only be seen once
• you can’t pin your own gifts with stickers
• Postcards no longer contain the text “Greetings from” and “Coach names”, which would otherwise be displayed when the gift is opened

JumpJumpOver also advises that coaches who do not share their nickname for the postcard book will be listed in the “Unknown Trainers” group (via reddit.com). In addition, he notes that the data is apparently not saved in the game, because when opening his postcard book there was a delay of a few seconds before the cards were displayed.

Dependent_Chemist, on the other hand, would like to be able to leaf through other postcard books (via reddit.com). It remains to be seen whether Niantic will respond to this request and change one or the other function on the postcard book.
