Genshin Impact reportedly brings a change to earn old characters without gacha

A trusted leaker believes that in Genshin Impact you will soon be less dependent on the gacha system. Specifically, characters and weapons from the standard banner should be farmable. Such a system already exists in another miHoYo game.

Since official information about the future of the game is rare, large parts of the Genshin Impact community trust leaked information. Of course, as always, these should be treated with caution. One of the most trustworthy leaks is a Twitter user with the pseudonym UBatcha.

According to the information in the leak, it could be around mid-2022 at the earliest to get characters and weapons without a gacha. This would specifically affect the characters and weapons that can be obtained from the standard “Wanderlust” banner.

This leak comes a few weeks after one of the biggest changes to the gacha system came into play with the double rerun banners.

Methods for getting characters and weapons up to date

How do you get characters up to date? Currently, characters can only be obtained using 5 methods:

• As a beginner you get the characters Traveler, Amber, Kaeya and Lisa through the first story missions.
• Barbara and Xiangling can be unlocked via quests.
• Every month you can buy 2 characters with star shine in the Paimon shop. The selection rotates monthly through 6 different fixed offers. In December this is Barbara and Kaeya, in January Fischl and Xiangling.
• You can unlock characters at certain events. The other day it was Xinyan.
• You can only get all other characters in the gacha system.

With the change that the leaker considers possible, a 6th method would be added. So there would be an alternative to the “Predetermined Fate” to get weapons and characters from the standard banner.

How do you get guns right now? You can get weapons in Genshin Impact through various small events, chests or quests in the game. You can also get some 4-star weapons from the chargeable Battle Pass or craft for free at the blacksmith. The Paimon shop also offers weapons in exchange for star shine.

Otherwise you get weapons, like the characters, from the gacha banners.

Getting specific things targeted should become a lot easier with this change. Especially because there is no increased probability for certain weapons and characters in the standard banner. It is not clear whether this potential change is limited to only 4-star characters and weapons, or whether the rare 5-star characters could also be unlocked.

Info is pure speculation: Like all leaks, this info should be treated with great caution – but this is especially true for this example. In this case, the leaker even addresses the many uncertain information and eventualities directly.

However, this speculation could possibly come true: There is already a similar system in another game from the Genshin Impact developers: Honkai Impact 3rd.

Another miHoYo game allows you to craft characters

Honkai Impact 3rd is another game developed by miHoYo. The game was released in 2016. Honkai Impact 3rd is also a gacha game, but there has been a system there for some time with which you can unlock characters without a gacha.

In Honkai Impact 3rd you can unlock a character with enough “fragments”. You get these fragments – similar to stardust and shine in Genshin Impact – when you unlock something in the Gacha. In addition, you can buy these fragments with items that you get from missions and events (via Twitter).

This system in Honkai Impact 3rd makes it easier for you to unlock your favorite characters. You are not completely dependent on the random gacha system.

It is unclear whether this system will also appear in Genshin Impact in one way or another. Even the leaker isn’t sure if gacha-free unlocking of characters will appear in Genshin Impact at all.
