The release of Horizon Forbidden West is getting closer and we’ve already seen some of the Forbidden West. Among them were new monsters and varied landscapes from dense forest to a dusty desert. There were also old flooded ruins – but not yet an intact bustling city. We are now seeing one of these for the first time on new screenshots. We’ll tell you more about these and other new pictures.

A busy city

It’s all about this: Aloy will start her new adventure in the Forbidden West on February 18, 2022 and Guerrilla Games has already given us a good impression of what to expect with trailers and screenshots. What was missing so far, however, were vibrant cities as we know them from Zero Dawn. That is changed by new screenshots that are made at gameinformer.com were published.

We see a busy city for the first time: After we already had a look at ruins – probably from the old world – we now see one of the inhabited cities. We see Aloy strolling through a market square selling all kinds of goods, and we also take a look at a tavern.

Anyone who has played Zero Dawn should already recognize from the style of the stands and furnishings that it is a Carja town. Game Informer reveals that we will familiarize ourselves with the game mechanics in this settlement before we set off with Aloy in the Forbidden West. So it should be a tutorial area.

What is also striking about the pictures is the so-called “Hero Lighting”. This is a special selection of parameters that ensure particularly bright lighting. However, we only get this benefit on the PS5.

More about Horizon Forbidden West:

What else is there to see?

On one of the pictures we can take another look at the grave, which, according to Game Informer, more or less takes on the role of guardian in Zero Dawn. In other words, it is a reconnaissance machine that we will come across frequently.

Here you can see the new machines in the trailer:

What is particularly exciting about the new grave, however, is that – as the name suggests – it can dig itself into the ground and then unexpectedly reappear at another location. Game Informer quotes Game Director Mathijs de Jonge as saying:

We wanted to give the machines in Horizon Forbidden West even more character and locomotion. So the graves are very similar to otters or weasels: flexible, fast and pretty wild!

Another picture shows Aloy, who is standing on a mountain slope and looking towards a wide landscape with mountains and valleys in the mist. It’s not even two months before we can see the whole Forbidden West for ourselves. Horizon Forbidden West will be released on February 18, 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
