Horizon Forbidden West: Other characters become more important, which is also due to Aloy himself

In Horizon Forbidden West, NPCs should not only play more important roles, but also appear more authentic. This also applies to the common urban population.
In Horizon Forbidden West, NPCs should not only play more important roles, but also appear more authentic. This also applies to the common urban population.

We were recently able to take a first look at a lively city in Horizon Forbidden West with new screenshots and have seen: There is a lot going on there. According to the development team, this doesn’t just mean that there are lots of NPCs there. Their hustle and bustle should also appear more authentic than in the previous title. Narrative Director Ben McCaw also reiterated that Aloy’s companions play a bigger role and explains how this is anchored in the story. We’ll tell you what we know about it.

Forbidden West mit authentischeren NPCs

It’s all about this: Horizon Forbidden West continues the journey of heroine Aloy through a dystopian and dangerous, but also beautiful world. Many innovations and improvements await us compared to the first part of the franchise. This doesn’t just apply to Aloy, who has learned new tricks. Guerrilla Games has also taken on the NPCs.

More authentic hustle and bustle in cities: We recently showed you what a Carja town looks like on newly released PS5 screenshots. As wccftech.com reports, Narrative Director Ben McCaw has also promised that the settlements will feel livelier and more authentic.

This is to be achieved through various innovations compared to Horizon Zero Dawn: The team uses a revised system for crowds, improved animations and, as McCaw says, a “much better sound design”.

Aloy’s stronger bond with other people is for a narrative purpose

But that’s not the only change that should be made in terms of NPCs. The sequel wants to focus more on Aloy’s companions. We have already reported that these are becoming more important and will support the heroine in battle.

In the new interview, McCaw elaborates on the statement, as Wccftech reports. He explains that the statement not only refers to Aloy’s friends from the main story, but that their acquaintances from side missions will not simply go away either.

The fact that other people are now playing a bigger role is no coincidence and, as you can see from McCaw’s words, is also anchored in the story. He explains:

On one level, Aloy really wants to live up to the example of Elizabet Sobek, her mother figure, and do everything possible to stop the plague and save the world.

According to the narrative director, Aloy notices that this can feel very lonely and that the bond with other people is what makes the world worth saving. So we can be curious to see what ties these are and how their friendships are shaped. From the February 18 2022 we can set off into the Forbidden West with Aloy on PS4 and PS5.

Are you looking forward to these innovations and which of them appeals to you the most?
